  • Led light bar on roof cage

Hi im going to install a 42" 10W light bar on the roof cage of my 120 prado, now ive done a search but can't seem to find where you guys run the wiring through the cab to the cage?

What's the neatest way of doing this?

    Thanks
    Brad

i ran my roof wiring down under the top of the back door and then it does a u-turn and comes up behind the bottom of the tailight. very neat and doesnt compromise any seals

Brad. What brand did you choose? I am about to get a New Pro tech as they seem the best power for cost option, but want to be sure.

Have a look at the Aurora led bars MLC.... These are now my pic. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aurora-40...item1c381b4812

My intention (if I'm on Santa's good list), is to run the power up the side of the windscreen as the cable will tuck neatly under the trim all the way up to the rack and will have some weather proof quick connects for when the need arises.

What Craig said. Side of the windscreen is the easiest.

yep easiest and neatest. I actually did a test run and can put a 7 core flex in under the windscreen seal for running multiple circuits on the roof rack. Just haven't got round to actually fitting anything

            Cheers Andrew

What's the rated current for the 7 core flex?

3mm, 10 amp! just normal 7 core trailer wire.

I was just thinking about a few things and that's what I had lying around to test to see if it would fit. I never got as far as working out what I needed for anything I was planning.

                Cheers Andrew

I bought 6mm2 twin core and have run this up the back for my solar panel feed. This cable also fits under the windscreen trim easily. It also is capable of carrying lots of currents so that is what I will be doing. I will put a relay up the back behind the airbox and run from there up to a black (was going to be blue) Anderson plug that I will fix to the factory NS rails. Same arrangement with the solar feed, different colour Anderson plugs so they cannot be connected the wrong way. The only question I have is whether to punch a hole through the plastic scuttle panel to tidy the cable install or run it over the scuttle. Need to look at it a bit longer I think. Hole and grommet is preferable as long as it doesn't interfere with anything up there.

I only intend to use the lightbar as a track light so I will fix it under the roof rack which coincidentally also has the solar panel on top. I will try and get some pics this weekend once I finish off the brackets to hold the Anderson plugs on the rails.

                          Thanks Craig.

While I will be getting the 30 inch, I see the 40 inch comparatively is similar with 19,600 lumins v 19,600 lumins. I think I prefer the slim design of the new pro but each to their own.

                          Cheers.
