  • Grande 120 Rear Camera Relocation - help?

    Good peoples.

Has anyone relocated the position of the original Camera? If so, does it disconnect anywhere near the rear for reconnection?

It disconnects very close to where you place the pliers and squeeze...
    Cheers

Thanks Michael, you have been very helpful. BTW, have you found the handbrake yet?

Handbrakes are a myth, just like that spot between F & H.

On a serious note, its not too hard to remove the rear door inside skin/lining. Remove the screw in the handle recess, a couple more in the utilities pocket and carefully pop the skin off one lug at a time.

You should be able to trace back the camera cables to the plug - if its inside the door...
        Cheers
        Micheal.

Dear ANYONE, this is what I would like confirmed BEFORE I follow my learned friend's advice.

Footnote: what the hell's a G spot? do I even need to know this irrelevant information?

I cant 100% recall if there is a plug inside the door, but I "think" there is? I recall running the cable front to back, which means I would have used a plug as otherwise it wouldn't be possible to squeeze the camera unit thru the holes I've used.

Ok, it sounds plausible, BUT the plug could be on the wrong side of the feed tube running to the rear door. Let's keep trying to narrow this down please.

It's not on the wrong side.. It's in the door.

To be sure, you'll need to remove the rear door trim.

I am guessing that the plug that you are looking for is in the back door but is a 4pin plug!... Bugga!

If you want an easy way out with heaps of cable length then convert from 4pin to a RCA but it is a tad expensive and a lazy alternative!

I personally thought that was a tad expensive/ rude and an absolute rip-off so did some searching and found one at a more realistic price for $10 bucks

Also!... If your OEM camara is stuffed then try these guys below!

You can also buy the cable from alibaba no probs but you have to buy a minimum of a 1,000 units! .. Lol

I think you'll find he already has the camera and cable installed but wants to move the camera.. Not reinstall another type....

I was thinking more on the lines of if he wants to move the camera head to a totally different position but the original cable is not long enough for new position then just convert to RCA from the 4pin then choose your RCA cable length then put it where ever he wants & also if he wants he can fit many different (Probably better quality) camera heads with many options given he would now have a RCA socket instead of awkward 4pin socket?

We know the original Grande is NTFS but with the new camera head units now out there the options are endless & mostly come with the RCA socket anyway!

ALSO!... If he just wants to relocate the original camera (if the design of the original camera will let him) Then given it has wires instead shield RCA type then he would just have to extend the wires with cable & heat shrink! ... Maybe?

                          Cheers

                            Another Option?
I moved my camera from original position to top of door just in behind new Dust Spoiler ($125 on ebay) - I had it moved/installed (due to blind spot accident I had - one big friggin telegraph pole I didn't see in my dumb-arse limited camera view).
Spoke to panel shop peeps - as they repaired "The Pearl" - they had an Auto electrician move my camera AND install proximity beepers in my new bumperbar - (never bitten twice).
The camera move cost me $80...
It shows full spread across the back from under the spoiler - very happy now!!
Just an idea mate - sometimes it simply pays to get the experts in to do things!

You are right mate. I do want to relocate the camera after having a new AJ120 rear bar installed. Thanks off the links too. Just wish my mate Matty was around to do thus. Electrical stuff... I already have to finish my new mud flaps and change the grades and rotors......
