TerraTrip 202 - Electronic Pulse from Speedo

One would think this is straight forward, but doesn't appear to be the case....

I understand the TerraTrip's required wiring - RM_Electronic_speedo_interface_Terratrip_BC548.pdf Which is easy after a trip to JayCar.

What is driving me to drink (more) is where to tap into the main loom for the speedometer pulse out of the gearbox.

I'm a 2006 GX 6 Speed Manual - so no ABS/SC.

I need to confirm if this is:
A) Correct for my GX
B) If A is correct, where does the main harness come in? Behind the glovebox?

I don't know you level of technical ability so some of what follows may be over your head. Apologies if this is the case.

I have read thru the other posts and it looks like I may need to use a technique I have employed in the past to get a speed signal. The last 4wd I fitted my home designed/built Terratrip to had no signal source [cable speedo] so I mounted a steel "flag" under a uni joint mounting bolt a used an inductive proximity sensor to provide the pulses. These have an open collector output that require a "pullup" resistor to your Terratrip's positive supply to generate a signal.

The ABS sensors are 2 wire devices that would output a low level signal [~100 millivolts AC, the frequency of which varies with speed] You could use an LM2917 {National Semiconductor] and design an interface to give you logic level output [say 5V or so] to feed your Terratrip. I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST THIS APPROACH AS YOU MAY RENDER THE ABS INOPERATIVE.

Thanks - but I don't have ABS, so no worries there.

A mate has just tapped into the gearbox lead before it hits the ECU. Since his '06 Hilux has the same running gear as the Prado (though wiring harness is different), should be the same deal.

Will check it out this weekend and let people know what I did via this thread!

Needless to say, I've changed Prado's and now am in a 120 '04 GXL with ABS.

I picked up a signal for my MONIT and Rallysafe behind the stereo/glovebox area. Its also down in the passenger LHS kick panel.
