Grande Optitron Instruments transplant into lower spec model possible?

Hi all.

I'm a new member to PradoPoint and I've been cruising the forum for a while, getting a feel for the place and doing hours of searching and research. I'll eventually get around to putting up and introduction post but for now, I just need to get some information I haven't been able to find via the search feature.

I have a 2007 (1KD) Prado turbo diesel VX auto Australian Spec. I was curious to know if any one has tried and had success at transplanting the Optitron instrument cluster from the top spec Grande, into a lower spec model with the standard instruments? I wanted to know if it may be a plug and play arrangement or if it would be more involved than that. I've already bought a Multi Function Display from the Grande to swap out the normal clock/temp display after reading it had been done successfully by other members here.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would be keen to know also... plus have heard rumours that euro spec 95s in the final years might have been given the option also.

I just wanted to follow up on this for anyone looking for the info in the future.

I decided to be a guinea pig with this one so I bought an Optitron instrument cluster from a wrecker. I had it odometer matched and put it in with fingers cross. It worked!!! 100% all functions work as they should with no alterations.

For the record, my Prado is a 2007 VX diesel and the donor car was a 2007 Grande diesel. In putting the cluster in the VX, the height control lights no longer illuminate as they would on the Grande (this includes the back lighting with headlights on) so the instrument cluster works exactly as it did in my VX (ie you can see the symbols etc for the height control but they do not illuminate).

Something else to remember, grab the headlight dimmer switch too! It's slightly different to the standard one and is designed to be used with the Optitron display. It was plug and play pulling the old one out and putting the new one in.

The multifunction display for the centre dash I had purchased prior was also plug and play and works 100%. Good little luxury touches. Good to know the info like DTE and average fuel now.

Can you show us the difference between the 2 clusters? Do you have pics of the before and after? Because I just assumed they were the same cluster from gx up to grande just with different functions able to be lit up depending on options and spec
