  • Installing an Eclipse AVN827GA unit into a 07 Prado VX. Help with wiring...

    Hi guys. I've been searching the net and PradoPoint now for near on four hours and still can't come up with an answer to my problem. I've pulled the factory in dash 6 stacker unit out in anticipation of fitting the new Eclipse unit and I've bought an Aerpro harness to suit. However there is a 20pin plug (of which only 4 pins are used) that I can only presume is for the steering wheel controls but I'm unsure of what each wire is. The wires are one black, one red, one white and one purple with a white stripe. The purple/white one in particular is of interest because it's routed in such a way it almost looks like an afterthought by Toyota. It runs off somewhere by itself behind the passenger side of the dashboard. Any idea what it is exactly? I noticed when this plug was disconnected from the factory head unit, the steering wheel button illumination went out. If it is a plug for the steering controls, two wires would be for the controls, one for the ground, but that still leaves one unaccounted for. Does the factory unit have speed sensing volume adjustment?

    Keep in mind my VX just has the standard 6 disc stacker. It doesn't have the plugs for gps, reverse cameras etc.

    I'm planning on using a Axxess Steering wheel control interface module in order to retain the steering wheel controls with the new eclipse unit, but this module requires the factory steering input wires to be wired to the module, hence the need to know what the wires actually are.

    Any input appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Black = steering ground
    Red = steering switch 1
    White = steering switch 2
    Violet/White = Reverse trigger wire

      You'll find that the Axxess module will actually have a wiring diagram for toyota.

        Thanks for the reply RanJ. I tried the sequence you suggested and the trigger and ground wires for the steering wheel seems spot on. I put a multi meter on the violet/white and put the car in reverse but get no voltage at the plug. Is this definitely confirmed as a reverse trigger or are you working from other info?

        A few other questions if I can to anyone that may know, the large and small aerial plug as fitted to the Prado obviously don't fit most head units, only the big one is a standard size, do you need to use an adapter to convert the two into one or is the use of just the large plug more than suitable?

        Lucky last, for those with GPS factory head units, any idea where Toyota mounts the Gps aerial as standard?
        Thanks.

          The small aerial plug is for the GPS.

            Strange, the little plug was plugged into the back of my standard 6 disc stacker unit (no gps). I thought it might have been a diversity antenna or something because of the dual elements on the rear windows. Seems strange to plug the antenna in with a device that doesn't even have that functionality.

              Definetly the reverse wire but may b not be connected at fuse/junction box
