D4D Fuel Filler Holes

Having bought a D4D without clapping eyes on a demo model can someone who has one please tell me if the fuel filler hole things (don't know the right name) are of the size that allows for the use of the fast fill diesel pumps or is it the skinny unleaded type?

Yes Andrew, the fuel filler hole will take the fast fill nozzles & with the 180 litre tank you need it.

Interesting topic, I did not know that they made two types of diesel bowsers. Are the fast fill bowsers available at most service stations or are they particular to a brand like BP?

Yes mav,
If you fill up where trucks frequent you will normally find a pump with a big nozzle & higher volume delivery.
Just make sure it does not splash back as it goes in very quickly (the smell of diesel lingers when on your hands or clothing)

The only problem I find when using fast flow pumps is that because diesel froths up so much it can take a long time to actually fill to the brim, which I always do to get a true fuel economy reading. Depending on the pump, for instance yesterday I filled up in Sydney with 135 litres and it took me 15 minutes to get the last ten litres in because of this problem.

On my 2004 model TD GXL, I can certainly use either size diesel pump.

I used to find it difficult to fill my dads old 94 80 series wagon. It had the button you had to pull out to fill the 45L sub tank. When the fuel frothed up, you would be forever swapping between the two tanks until you got it full. Would take forever sometimes!!!
