20 000km Dealer Service Q: Fuel Filter Change on TD?

I was up in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago on family business, and had to get my '05 TD serviced (I have it on novated lease, therefore must get it Toyota dealer serviced as per the schedule).

I arranged for the service to be done, but when picking the vehicle up found the fuel filter had not been changed. The service scedule clearly states this should be done.

When I asked the service adviser why the filter was not changed, his reply was "we only do them every 40 000km"....

When I reported this to the lease company, they were less than impressed. They are very pedantic that the vehicles are correctly serviced and will be taking the matter up with the dealer.

My question to you is: Did you dealer/mechanic change over the fuel filter at the 20 000km service, or if not, has it had any effect on the reliability of your vehicle?

My car is on novated lease as well and the leasing company don't give a
shit when and there it is serviced... What company do you use for your novated lease? With the fuel filter you can specifically request them to
change it and they will do it for extra charge...

Fuel Filter

The dealer should of change your filter at 20k. I think Toyota have a lot of work to do with their dealers. I have used a number of toyota service department and they are all the same, never completely fix the problem first time, always a second visit. :x

Wait until you get the 40k and 80k services done !
They charge you to do a book service, and none do it correctly !
Book states valve clearance to be done with feeler gauges and adjusted !
I have had service done at 2 different dealers, and both said "we only listen to them".
I asked EVERY Toyota dealer I used right around Australia last year, and was told the same thing.
YOU GET CHARGED FOR THE FULL SERVICE but only get half of what you are charged for !
Great vehicle but arseholes to deal with..........

Thanks for the answers. LC120man, mine is with Fleet Australia (formerly CommFleet) on the Qantas contract.

My contract includes all fuel and all dealer scheduled services, and some tyres. Although I would prefer to take it to the mechanic of my choice, I'm contract-bound to use the Toyota network.....

The bloke I spoke with at Fleet Aust was really good. He said to just take it to my nearest dealer and he'd authorise it. Can't ask for much more than that.

Was there an end result to this?? Our 05 Vx is with custom fleet. Its nearly due for its 20K service.

Gee's - why dont you come right out and say what you think!!

Unfortunately the problem is not unique to Toyota, its the same with every brand. Also, they will charge MORE if they take longer, but NEVER less than the scheduled time!

If the mechanic does not give a sh!t, then you have to point out the errors of their way and insist they do what is on the service book. Unfortunately very few people do this to keep them honest.

Would love to, but they have more money than I. :evil:

Have heard of a class action being taken on another forum at one stage, over water ingress into motor, caused by Soverign bullbar fittment fault.
Smashed up at least one motor plus others, but forum went dead on the subject.
There has since been rectification done on inner guards, but only to ones that complained. NO RECALLS....
I still have one of the faulty fittment bars but don't wade around in deep water, so not a worry.
