Smoke on startup

Can anybody help, I have a 2007 GXL diesel Prado and every now and then (more if the car is facing downhill)
When I start the engine there is a large cloud of white smoke. then once started there is black smoke but only small amounts. I've been checking the oil regularly and it doesn't seem to be using much if any. What would cause this?
Last time I had it serviced at Toyota the mechanic just said, Oh it's probably just overfueling,nothing to worry about.
With the amount of smoke that comes out on startup one would think there is something very wrong.

Sounds like your injector seals are leaking, if you do a search you will find lots of info on this. Short story is you need to get them replaced ASAP or it can lead to bigger expensive problems.

My 2003 KZ -te smokes on start up. I know this as it leaves ruddy big black diesel splats/spots down my internal garage wall. The injectors are primed to do this forcing more diesel through on start up. The white smoke sounds more alarming though although I've not got the D4D like you?? Like AJ120 says I'd get a diesel mechanics expert advice. Black smoke -good/normal, white- not so good!!??

As AJ120 says, sounds like seals/seats are gone. Look at it ASAP as it's potentially fatal if left alone. Look at some other threads here which will tell you to inspect your sump screen, replace the injector seals/seats etc

Thanks for the info, I'll be booking in with a decent mechanic to have this fixed asap to stop any further damage.

Here we go again. Toyota have the chance to tell Brad that what he is experiencing is exactly what occurred in Europe and will lead to blocked oil pick up and then new motor. But no. Lets just tell him it's normal. Disgraceful.
When will Toyota admit their mistake
