    Hi guys

I've been having some problems with my car for the past couple months now and its driving me crazy, I hope you guys can help.

I bought my 2005 Prado off my uncle as he wasn't using it and the car was just sitting for a long time not being used. It was driving fine for a week until one day it didn't start; it was cranking but not starting.
I called an auto sparky to come around and have a look. He played around alot and he pretty much stuffed my car up. He played with the ECU and other cables and finally energised the solenoid valve on the fuel pump directly from the battery which was a bad move. The car started but ran very bad. Heaps of smoke, rattling and timing was gone.

In order to fix this problem, I got the fuel pump rebuilt, injectors cleaned, filters changed, head serviced, rings replaced and still its running rough and smoking (the smoke has reduced). According to Toyota theres no ECU fault.
The mechanics are lost and don't know what else to do. He also tried different pumps with no success. It runs rough when cold then bit better when hot but smokes and mechanic said the fuel timing is not correct.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Gday yaz.
Buddy it sounds like a real pickle that you have got yourself in there.
Your problems could be anything under sun.
First off mate. Add some details to your profile so we can see where you are etc.
That way someone may know someone near by you.
A good diesel mechanic with a good diagnostic tool would be my first stop.
Also, write down exactly everything that was done to the car, step by step.
That way the next person to look at it will know what's been filed with.
Situation like this can easily get worse and worse by having a lot of different people having a play with your car.
Having the auto elec do that dodgey stuff sounds like the start of the problem.
    It seriously could be anything.

          Thanks Mack

I took it to Robson Bro's 4x4 which are pretty good with diesels but they said its the fuel pump. I have since had the pump rebuilt. Maybe I may have to take it back unless anyone knows another good diesel mechanic.

            Dumb question.
Was the 'solenoid' thing that the auto alectrian fried replaced?
All of the valves and sensors on the pump would need to be tested at the very least.
I think the only person that can help you on this is yourself mate.
            Perth is a big town.
            Good luck.

                Thanks John.
The timing is all good mate. I also thought it could be the fuel as it was sitting for sometime but i supplied clean fuel externally and still the same thing.
The oil was also replaced. I haven't checked the air filter yet and i will try cleaning the sensors and see if it helps.
I am going to try replacing the ECU as my final option.

No faults stored on memory mate. I will test all the sensors which could affect the control of diesel. Toyota recommended having a look at the water temperature sensor also. Any other recommendations would be much appreciated.
                  Thanks
