  • Guard for fuel cooler

Anyone fitted a guard in front of the fuel cooler? Mine has got a lot of stone hits and some of the fins are bent. It was pointed out to me yesterday that I should consider putting some mesh or other material in front to protect the cooler.

This is what it looks like after 9000km across the wilds of WA & NT over the last 5 weeks. The fins are bent. I guess all that mud doesn't do much for the cooling effect.

Yuk. Yeah I'm planning to get one made soon mate. Just gonna measure it up, make a template and get a guard bent up out of that alloy checker plate with the little slots in it.

I was thinking of extending the Brown Davies bash plate back to the east-west cross member with a wing up under the driveshaft to the left side. It may give a little bit of protection to the cooler plus will also look after the exposed tranny sump on my auto.

Looks like the mud wasps have made a home in it!
But it certainly has made me think about fitting a guard as well.

That's not a bad idea, I've noticed a couple of bent fins on mine too.

Gunna ask the question - is this OEM? If so where does she sit? It looks like in the undercarriage behind the engine bay?

Yes, it's factory stock. Its under the floor on front left passenger side ahead of the front fuel tank.
