    could anyone tell me if they had better economy after getting intake manifold cleaned out
    2004 GLX Prado 3ltr turbo deisel, Ironman winch bar, 9500 t-max winch, Ligthforce 240 blitz's,265/70/17 mickey T's MTZ's, powerful 4x4 roof rack, lightforce 170 strikers, 2" bilstein shocks - dobinson springs, outback roof console

    I would be interested to here this also, just reading your signature and it would appear our prados are pretty similar! I only live in albany creek, should go for a play one day at glasshouse or something??
    2012 4dr JK wrangler, 3.5" AEV lift, AEV mags, 35" muddies, front/rear arb bars, tjm sliders, pioneer platform and some other goodies

          Not really, diesel intake manifolds dont tend to get terribly dirty, as they dont have a throttle body as such

            Wrong on both counts mate...

            The mix of egr soot and blow by oil in the intake restrict the intake severely. I haven't quantified the benefit of cleaning but mine was approaching a 50% reduction in diameter before I cleaned it.

              mate a diesels intake is only air, unlike petrol which injector sprays into inlet manifold with the air, diesel has 100% air and throttle is controlled by injectors.

              so explain to me how an intake will get dirty if you replace air filter regularly?

                  Octane it is to do with the EGR system.

                      And modern diesels (if you can call the 1KZ a modern diesel) have a throttle plate.

                        Getting back to the original question, after my intake manifold was cleaned, injectors replaced, no decrease in fuel used. I keep very accurate recorders for diesel used and distance travelled. Although this is for the common rail I would imagine the earlier motors would be similar. Unless the manifold had enough gunk to start to block the ports in the head.
