Preferred Oil

What are your thoughts on engine oil? I am going to change the oil myself and I was wondering what people on here use. I am based in the south, and have the pleasure to drive a 2005, Prado GXL turbo diesel. I was thinking about 10W-30.

Hi, I've got the same rig as you so I'll chip in my two cents worth...I use Castrol Magnatec 15W-40. Find it works a treat but I am no oil expert and only recently started doing my oil changes. Maybe for a colder climate like yours the 10W-30 would be OK! Hope it helps.

I used Delo 400 in my 90 1KZ same engine as yours. I use to buy it in 20L drums from Caltex mainly when it was on special I think for memory it was approx $90 on special. It stayed really clean I thought along with changing my oil and filter every 5k (as pervious owner did as well). When it was pulled apart to get the head done he said it was extremely clean. I used another brand in the hilux which again I changed every 4 to 5k and filter and I sold it with 300 thou on it and still going strong. I think if you stick to any good quality oil but change your filter and oil every 5 you shouldn't have any issues with oil sludge ( Ithink for memory both oils were 20w40 I think.........Cheers Steve

RIMULA R3 15W 40 every 5000 km with oil filter. Buy it on sale around $90.00 for 20 L.

Super Cheap carry it but wait until they have a 20% off store sale and get in early.

Have 145K on the clock, have ONLY EVER put in Castrol RX Super 15-40.....from Sydney to Alice Springs and beyond :-)as stated before, wait for Super Cheap to have 20% off....get the 20L tin and the hand pump, makes it cheaper :-)

Have been using the Penrite 5-40. Resent service by Jon for injectors and valve clearances showed no sludge or buildup on any internal surface. Buying from Supercheap Auto on the 20% off days.

Delo 400 in my 2.8 hilux,1hz 80 series ,1hz 100 series and now in my Prado and Hilux......been using it for a fair while and before Delo it was Ampol longhaul.......never had an oil related problem yet.....that's about 6-700k of use.

Magnatec 15-40 as advisd by the Roo. Also better suited in the hotter climates

Mobil Delvax ESP 15W40. Never had a problem supposed to be good for EGR engines we run it in our earthmoving and truck fleet even in hilux petrol utes.

Did the first oil change and used Penrite 15-40. Have used the same since and even gave the mechanic 10L to use when it went in for the 120,000km service at the start of the year.
