  • 1KD-FTV DIY injector change out

    Hi,
    I've had the injector values checked and no 2 is 2.9 1 was -2.1 3 and 4 were good -1.0 and 1.1 not bad for 215,000k!. I will change them out as a set has anyone done this themselves?. I would like to have a go not sure if I'm game!. A video on it would be great I reckon but some advise would be good.
    Cheers

      Me and my old man did mine (old man mainly). Personally I wouldn't bother. If you source the material, most diesel places will do the job for 3 hours labour including coding. I was strapped for cash due to unforseen expenses so I decided to save some money and give it a go.

      It took us around 7 hours to do the job given it was our first time. Double checking everything, looking at youtube video's along the way to make sure we don't miss anything, etc.

      If you have to buy any tools specially to do the job (torque wrench, spanners to get the pipes off and torqued back up, tools to clean the injector seat if you had blow by, etc), it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

        Azz, check micks link. Its our install guide. If you already had / have access to the required tools, I'd be a fan of doing it yourself if your handy with a spanner. It's not terribly complicated if you take your time, there only nuts and bolts! Anyway, take the time, read the guide and make your own mind up. I just like doing these sorts of things myself as it gives you a far greater understanding of your own car.

          Thanks everyone for your opinions. Matt, I'm leaning that way, having a go myself I do all my own servicing just don't want to go in half cocked!. I do like to as much as I can myself though.
          Cheers.

              Do you guys at Baileys fit the injectors or just re-manufacture them?

                Toyota places won't want to change just the injectors - they'll insist on also changing the pipes and anything else they can throw in there....

                  The injector pipes are theoretically a one use item though there are quite a few guys who have used them two or three times because they are careful.

                    I used Toyota injectors from Rick in NZ because I wanted the pipes as well. I wasn't prepared to take a risk on the pipes, only to find out after taking them out that I'd need new ones which would leave the car off the road for a few days while I order pipes locally. If I have to change injectors again, I'd use Baileys and I know the pipes havn't been over torqued and will be good for another use. I kept my old pipes which were fine when they came out so I has a spares should I need them.

                      Hi Guys,
                      Just as an FYI, we can supply pipes as well. They're $330 including for the Euro 4 sets

                        Needing to replace the injector seals, I have to get up to speed with the procedure. I have tried to compare the Bailey's procedure with the Toyota's Global Service method and there are significant differences that I can see from a superficial look. I stand corrected but I think the Toyota's procedure specifies the following additional items of dismantling compared to the Bailey's method:

                        the cooling system is drained;
                        the diesel throttle body assembly is removed;
                        two water bypass hoses are removed;
                        the vane pump oil reservoir is disconnected;
                        the electric vacuum regulating valve assembly is removed;
                        the intake air connector is removed;
                        the EGR valve with cooler is removed;
                        the vacuum switching valve is removed;
                        the oil filter is removed.

                        Can anyone explain to me why there are such significant differences, please? Why, why, why such differences?

                        Thanks
                        Glenn

                          Hey Sacred Cow (great user name BTW);

                          Ours is a basic remove and install. Everything that you need to do is in there, but not much more. EGR / intake cleanouts are usually recommended as well, as is a general servicing, and if you're really the cautious type, intercooler cleanout and tappets (because well hell, you're there and the pipes are off).

                          Alternatively, By the looks of the list, Toyota obviously are cleaning out the EGR in unison. Why you would start stuffing with the oil system is well beyond me...

                          Hope this helps.
                          matt

                            Now all we need is someone to show how to input the injector codes via techstream.
