  • Parts for 1kz timing belt service

    hey fellas

The 1kz is coming up to 300k mark, I have to do timing belt and was thinking while everything is off i should also get Water pump, injectors and glow plugs replaced, I bought the prado with 220k and have done nothing to it apart from oil changes and filters.

So is there anything else i should be looking at to service ?

also ....Could one of you smart lads tell me what exactly i should order from Amayama for the timing belt parts ??

    Cheers in advance

    G'day mate,

Timing belt is easy, gates belt from Repco. Also get the tensioner, NTN from Repco exact same as what u get from Toyo at 1/2 price. About $70.
May as well swap out the water pump if it has not been done.
Get tat from Toyo only $160, it will come with the back you don't need to use, unless its corroded. You need Toyo long life coolant, red not pink.
Might as well replace the hose from the header tank, that runs down under the fan shroud to the bottom, only $20 from Toyo.
Radiator hoses from Repco, 3 drive belts while you are at it.
That's about it for that job.

Injectors & glow plugs you can do as a separate job. If the glow plugs are not been done do those ASAP! They can fall apart & in!
Injectors, well only if you are running rough, bad fuel economy, lack power etc. IMO if it runs ok leave them.

might also be a god idea to change the thermostat as well. I had done this very recently (2 weeks ago) and I found a bit of wear in the thermo it self it was prob fine but I did it with "piece of mind" in mind. I also used Caterpillar extended long life coolant so all should be good. when pulling the thermo u have to remove the dipstick just watch the steel bracket near it as I nearly ripped off my fingernail with it lol.
Good luck its all fairly easy to do

Radiator hoses if they've never been done. They go brittle with age. Timing belt pulley and fan belts.
2019 GXL, Bullbar, UHF, Redarc Brake Controller, Tow Bar, Secondary Fuel Filter

                Check out Repco & bursons.

Bursons brand is often a GMB, in their box, or you can buy a GMB. ( made in Japan)
I have used plenty of aftermarket ones over the years, no problems!
Funny thing is its always the genuine/original ones leaking.
I'd be just as happy to have a $50-100 Repco one on.
The aftermarket ones usually only come with the front part ( the water pump only ) IMO this is all you need.
On the 1kz I recommend using the Toyo long life, the red one, (not super long life-pink)

Or you could upgrade to sllc but you should give it a good flush with radiator & block plug open.

I don't like the nulon red, it may be a coinsedence, but I don't think it was, when i Used to use it, seems to create leaks.
Been off it for many years & don't see the leaks either.
The Penrite 6 year coolant looks good, I have a suspicion they make it for Toyo.
I'm doing some homework on it. It seems to be compatible with anything & really good stuff.
So if you want I'd say give that a try if you think it's a saving.

Thanks mate appreciate your feedback, i did see the Penrite one on the shelf the other day.

50/50 is the recommended mix is that correct ?

I'm working for a rental place that has a workshop so i can get parts a bit cheaper which helps a bit.

                  thanks again

                    No probs, happy to help.

The Penrite 6 year, if you buy concentrate then yes 50/50

Toyo long life ( red) 40/60 is ok.

Toyo super long life, is pre mixed, I think 50/50.

                    Cheers
