What are people's thoughts on oil filters, do people have a particular brand they use? I always change my own oil, but I am keen to hear if other prado owners have a particular favourite?

I only use genuine filters. I buy them as cheap as I can on Ebay.

Get some of these whilst you can, seem very reasonably priced (if your changing every 5K).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOSCH-OIL-FI...f011ea&vxp=mtr. I think Bosch filters are now hard to find for the 1KZ??
Alternativley for the 1KZ-TE fleetguard and Donaldson will suffice.

With the experiences I have had with Toyota warranty, including part(s), I often avoid genuine.
I have had good service from Repco, so I deal with them. A few choices of filter brands.
I choose ryco! ryco warranty guaranteed, like it says on the box! They are as good or better than genuine, that's their guarantee & they will look after you. For my customers, I need to be backed up by suppliers to provide good service in the rare chance of a problem with parts.
I notice many other service centres use some cheap filters & don't see evidence of problems with those, but I rather stay with BIG Well known names I can trust to back me up. RYCO.

We had a customer come into the workshop (years ago when I worked for toyota) with issues with oil pressure. It did have regular services (not by toyota) after a long time doing tests etc we found the filter to be faulty. I know it could happen to any filter but just turned me off them. Any way I pay cost price for genuine so untill I cant then I will continue to use genuine lol.....Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet
