  • 120series t/d 3 litre 2005 - lost power

Hi folks ,maybe one of you may know what may have caused a complete power loss last week.
Symptoms were I was towing a caravan and started to lose power even on flat road had my foot flat to the floor and could only get about 40 kph then the engine would scream and not change to any gear ( auto ) this continued for some distance 100 Klms before a complete shutdown of the motor, was unable to start it and had to get a tow for car and van. The car was serviced not long ago 3 months . There were no warning lights on the dash ie timing belt light etc.
The rac mechanic said it sounds like a fuel problem either filter or contaminated diesel hoping it may only be the filter but fear the worst I need some ideas before I book into a Toyota dealer so I may know approx costs . Cheers greg

Good luck Greg, not sure what it was. May I ask why you would continue to drive it 100kms though while this was happening? i would have thought stopping and getting towed may be wiser but I suppose it depends where you were. It almost sounds like a gearbox problem but that doesn't explain why it didnt start later.
