  • Genuine DLC ( upgraded ) injectors are available through me from Toyota NZ
The kits cost is $2065 NZ ( approx $1765 AUD ) delivered to your door on a 2-3 day service from NZ

add on a couple of hours to fit and code to the ECU and your done!

So for around the $2k mark - you can buy your own new DLC injectors injectors and have them fitted
Kit includes 4x DLC injectors inc seating washers , 5x return line washers, and 4x fuel pipes
(your dont get pipes with recond or blueprinted injectors)

Pipes are a MUST replace if the injectors have been moved (ie replaced or seating washers done requiring injector to be removed)

I have supplied 3 sets in the 10 days to PP members

    • #4 seal looks likley to be the issue

Finally got the time to pull the SOB apart, before even getting the rocker cover off it looks like #4 has a blown seal.

After removing the cover and pulling number 4 it was confirmed the seal was blown, so glad to be in the road to recovery now.

      • Is it just me being paranoid or are the more frequent failures now surfacing?

My screen was 100% clear last service...

50/50 Mate!... That as in 50% paranoia and 50% inevitable! ... Lol

You will start to see injectors and seating washers to start popping-up now as there is still literally thousands of D4D's out there with the old seating washers and obviously you will now see Injectors starting to wear a tad prematurely due to the fact as the millage gets higher and as the None DLC's "DO NOT" like low sulphur fuel so accelerated wear will increase at a much higher rate now that the diesel is at 10ppm and was from the 50ppm and before that 500ppm!.. Hence there will be a wave of injectors to be changed.

Why do you think everyone is tooling up for injectors!..It's not a coincidence but a fact!!... Its not just DENSO either!.. "ALL" none DLC's will be wearing out like flies dropping in the cold!

Once you have your new injectors fitted and the new seating washers (Heat shields) I'm sure everything will calm down again

Obviously if you cant help your self and you start pimping the engine then that will compromise the engine one way or the other and this also can be added to the engine or injector or both failure rate!

I'm sure that last paragraph will scuff some feathers! Lol

          Cheers

          • D4D just keep up the inspection regime, injector feedback values at 40k intervals and check the suction screen, and stay vigilant. The D4D is a good motor. I thought long and hard after having the glitch with my D4D and came to the conclusion that I would go another Prado. DLC injectors, new seats (standard now), i would keep an eye on the screen regardless, catch can and above all keep the fuel system clean. I did knock back the chance to buy a second hand D4D Hilux though and took the common rail Rodeo just because I had no idea how the Lux had been looked after.

My feathers are fine SkyWalker, thanks for asking

            • Blown Seal

Here is the photo of the seals pulled from the injectors. #4 was the issue in this case.

As MJ said, just do the checks, as in the feedback values and the sump screen everytime you drop the engine oil with an inspection camera. And you will be alright.
Most feedback value checks at cold start are around the $80.00 to $140.00 mark, well they should be.
                John.
You can buy "Techstream" on ebay with an adapter for $30, it will read your feed back values when ever you want/each oil change if you wish, and is a one off cost rather than an ongoing one to get a dealer to do it. It is seriously a 5 minute job, and the convenience of not having to take you vehicle any where and wait for it to cool down.

I would say so, I doubt that the rocker cover has ever been off on this one, has done 168km but by the looks of the amount of blow by that had even escaped onto the top of the cover it has been blown for quite some time. why the previous owner didnt think anything was up is beyond me.

The kit with new seals came with the coated kind. FYI.

I have an inspection camera now and will post a shot of the sump screen when i have it. not very much sooty crap at all on the top so im keeping my fingers crossed that the sump screen is still relatively clear but it is definitely going to be checked!!.

BTW this is a 2001 D4D in a Hilux Surf, these early model D4D injectors are not coded, it is up to the ECU to workout the injection volumes for each one as their are no codes to enter into the ECU..

Don't think they will be here for another 50 if they keep treating there customers like they are. Seems like you're all fine and good until you have paid for it and then cya later and don't come back with any problems is there attitude.
