Hi guys, spoke to the people who serviced my car and confirmed they didn't write down the injector values, but they're happy to run the test again for $180 :-( and give me a report. I asked if they were across this discussion about injector problems and they said no. I was trying to find a reference to the Europe recall but my google-fu has failed me, I can find plenty of references on Australian sites saying there was a recall, but not sure how to find the actual recall. Does anyone have a link to a page that actually describes the recall in Europe? Unfortunately if you go to the Toyota UK website they require a registration number or VIN to check for recalls.
I should also mention that in my discussion with them, Toyota were very big on the "Australia has dirty fuel" line - I am not expert enough to know whether this is a reasonable claim, but if so, why do they sell cars that have such trouble using Australian fuel?
On the issue of changing my oil every 5000kms, it seems to me that this car can have a lot of hidden service costs! With a supposed 10,000 km service interval, shelling out to change oil and filter at double that rate seems excessive. I appreciate that a lot of you are doing that because you are using your vehicles off road a lot and value it as a long term investment. For me, doing a lot less 4wd-ing than I used to, and Toyota suggesting they could clean my injectors every service at a cost of $190, it is starting to seem like a bit of a money pit. I'm not trolling, I realise there are a lot of great features of this vehicle, but any way you look at it, the costs seem to be a lot higher than I've had with previous vehicles, including an older Hilux diesel.
