Many thanks.

I wonder if the dealers tweak the injector signals as a means of addressing injector noise.
I've taken my car in twice, both times I've not got a service report and both times the car has been quieter for a few weeks after going to the dealer.

You never know I guess. When mine went in they said they'd need it all day to do the job as there was a lot involved... They then rang me about 2 hours later and said it was ready! When I asked why they did it so quick they just said "You get the right bloke on the job blah blah..." So who knows what they do!
Hello everyone, its been a while since my last post on this topic.
Back from Flinders and the Robe Beach run and off to the dealer to have things checked out. The engine mounts were checked and apparently OK - not the cause for the rough idling in Drive apparently. All injectors on spec and no diagnositc codes detected on the analysis. So no action needed which I think is perhaps a good thing. BUT, does anyone know if the faulty injectors actually send an error code or not? Is there anything that the ECU will detect? I hope that there is an error code otherwise it has to go on the symptoms and owner report and service departments experience with this problem. Ideas please?

I can tell you that the Scanguage II did not report any codes with my failed injector. I also have another problem either injector or fuel pump related rattle and there are no codes being set with this either.

not sure if it is related or not, but i sometimes notice that after first driving off when "cold" - and the scangauge showing the coolant temp between 50degC and 57degC - and i stop (at a giveway, stop light etc) - the car can idle very roughly. this apears to correct itself once to proper operating temp (ie: between 85degC and 87degC).
anyone else notice this?
cheers

Thanks Mav for your comment on the injectors and error codes not being there. I guess at the moment I will just have to wait for something to actually get worse - I hope it wont though. Good luck with yours.

Thats what mine does and has done for about 15000k now. If it is rough, then drop it into neutral and then back into drive and see if it smoths out or not. Mine tends to smooth out when I do that

It's interesting to see that the D4D motor was already employed in Hiluxes in Thailand in the previous generation Hilux ute. I took a picture of one as proof from Phuket.
I wonder why this rattle problem exists on a motor that has been out and about for such a long time now. :?

I doubt they have a need for 'winter' fuel in Thailand
I didn't realise that this problem was caused by winter diesel fuel. But there are folks on this forum in FNQ who also have this problem and I doubt their Prados have been fed a winter mix either. :?: :?: :?:
I am half way to Adelaide from Sydney towing 1.5t of trailer, bikes and animals and the truck is loving the new injectors, fuel economy is still pretty good so far even after all the hill climbing thru the first 400km out of Sydney
Lets just hope they get some more injectors shipped over to Oz.
