I received a bit of good news yesterday when I dropped into the Toyo workshop for an update on my Truck. What has happened is the clamp bracket that secures no. 2 Injector in place literally snapped in half allowing the Injector to be shot through the rocker cover- hence the loud banging sound. Over tensioning/cross threading the securing bolt perhaps?.. They say no.. Does anyone know whether or not these clamp brackets are replaced with the Injectors? If not, surely they should due to the constant heating and cooling that would eventually make them brittle. I find out today if no.2 piston/cylinder has been damaged. Fingers crossed!..

Purchased my new turbo diesel Prado in 2008. Eight months later had injector number 4 replaced. Injector no 1 has just been diagnosed as needing to be replaced - 6 weeks before warranty runs out. Will see how I go at getting remaining three injectors replaced. This thread has been a wealth of information. Thanks to all posters.
Cheers,
bowy

Problem resolved on above issues with Toyota Aust and dealership coming to the party and splitting full cost of repairs/labour. Truck's running well again so fingers crossed thats the end of it as I'm about to give it a good test when we head up to FNQ in early October.. An update on my situation where the injectors were replaced on my out of warranty vehicle with toyota paying only 50% of the cost. Consumer Affairs, acting on my behalf, were unable to persuade Toyota to pay the full cost so i am taking the matter to court (VCAT). I have private messaged everyone on this site who has reported injector issues- requesting a summary of their dealings with toyota and their contact details. thanks to the many who have replied. your documentation makes my case very strong. Some members had a full in box so would not have received my message in which case you might like to PM me. Will keep you advised of progress.
cheers Harro

Im up to the "evidence collecting" stage, where they got a photocopy of my service logbook and the car is booked in to get a data download from the ECU im assuming. Dont know why they didnt do this in the first place? Will let you know how i get along but seems like a lot of hassle when I can source the injectors for around half the price anyway, its just a pity that toyota is the only place locally that can program the injectors into the ECU.2007 GX Prado - Parskide towbar, wooly seat covers, 2" lifted tough dog suspension, Tracklander roof rack, Black Widow 2.5m Awning, Outback Drawers, MSA Fridge Slide, Dual Batteries, Lightforce XGT 70w (HID), ARB Deluxe Bullbar, Icom 440N CB, RFI 5Db Aerial, ARB under bonnet compressor, BFG AT 265/70/17...Still wanting more!

I have had the injectors checked and the ECU reprogrammed twice. After the first time, the rattle went away for about 3 months (including cold weather), then it came back! It's gone again now and I have my fingers crossed!Cheers, Brad

Curiously I spoke with a neighbour the other day with a 03 prado D4D with 138k on the clock who has had no injector issues ever. Services his Prado every 5k but no additional fuel filter changes outside of the book requirements and he doesn't care where he buys his diesel (what manufacturer that is).
Just lucky or what?Last edited by Riv39; 19-10-2011, 11:46 AM.2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto
