Add me to the blown engine list: 73,000km. Now I'm stuck in Meekatharra and have to tow the car another 800km to get home. Only had it serviced 4 weeks ago. Car ran fine on my recent trip of 6,600km and then the engine spluttered and stalled. I tried a restart and big knocking sound and copious white smoke from the exhaust. My mate towed me, with camper trailer attached for 350km along the dirt. Now, i'm advised to remove the drive shafts to continue towing. Rang the extended warranty mob and they have no record of my policy! Have faxed them a copy and now the fun and games begin getting the thing fixed at their expense.

Nothing. She ran like a dream for all of those 73,000km. No overheating, no ratlling, no excessive fuel consumption. I'm lucky it didn't go bang on me 2 weeks ago whilst I was up the Googs Track by myself!Dave

Now my original dealer has to re-submit all the paperwork for when I bought the car in January 2009 because they forget to send off the warranty stuff. i told them that was their problem, not mine, as I have my copy. Just pulled the tailshafts out for the 800km tow home.Dave

And here's a link to the pdf directly from Toyota about what Toyota will do to cure the problem:
http://www.toyota-tech.eu/toms_cabs/EN/1KET-015.pdf
The VIN number of my vehicle is slap bang in the middle of the VIN range of vehicles recalled by Toyota Motors Europe.
I have written to Toyota Australia asking them why they have not introduced a similar recall programme in the interest of their customers.
It seems patently unfair and immoral that Toyota Australia is not prepared to stand behind their product. It seems even more unfair that Toyota Australia makes money at their customers' expense by supplying parts to rectify design and manufacturing defects in their vehicles which were sold at premium prices.
If Toyota respond to my letter, it is highly probable based on past performers that they will respond with weasel words. If this is the case, I intend to take the matter up with the ACCC. For too long Toyota Australia have got away with fobbing their customers off. (Note that I personal experience of this.) I wonder how many highly paid staff they have in their "Customer Experience" department to deal with complaints as a direct result of the design and manufacturing defects of their product. If these salaries were spent, instead, on fixing up customers' vehicles, they would have a much happier customer base.
How about as many of you as possible barrage Toyota with a request to recall vehicles with the affected D4D engines and in due course take the matter up with the ACCC?

Thanks for that. I am now better prepared to get the engine fixed properly with the only hassle to get the insurance company to fix what Toyota should have done in the first place now that I am reliant on my extended warranty and not the standard 3 year manufacturers warranty. Or is there some responsibility for Toyota to cover what the insurance mob won't?Dave

Reported my dead engine to the service manager at local dealer this morning. He said there was a lot of "misinformation" and unsubstantiated "rumours" concerning Toyota injectors and engine failures. He reckons it's only a problem with European engines. Here we go again.Dave
