people dont realise that if you are 1000's of miles from home you will have to pay to get home from there and if you have a van it works out to be 1000's in towing costs, it cost us almost $8000 to get back to vic and that was cheap we had several quotes of over $12,000 [for a new donk]

    • Presently in Broome working and driving a rental Pajero - you thought the Prados had an issue with drooping back doors. Anyway, asked a local towie what it would cost to recover a 4wd and camper trailer that was 1200kms away. He just laughed and said "good luck with that". Yeah, I reckon you'd need a really good mate or a bloody good roadside assist package. He was sitting on the side of Minari Road at $110 per hour standby rate waiting for the coppers to seize cars illegally parked at a protestor roadblock.

      • Been driving a new Hilux with D4D up at Broome for a couple of days and it was smooth and so quiet when running. I'm looking forward to my new engine and injectors.

        • Engine is almost complete. Saw the short motor on the stand next to my car which is till parked in the naughty corner. Apparently the head has been sent out to be pressure tested and refurbed. All looks good. They have 2 weeks to finish it as I'm away to the WA/SA/NT border area with work.

          • With articles showing up in news papers and the number of people on this forum alone reporting issues it seems that it is time for the ACCC to take a look if Toyota will not. When other countries have already gone down the road of issuing notices to resolve the issue why are we almost last on the list. If between notices in other countries and items such as the Stats thread with the limited number of people in this forum Vs the number of owners as a % Toyota cannot see their way clear to treat us correctly then maybe consumer law is the fallback we may have to rely on. I am sure that the ACCC will have a good eye on Toyota currently with the number of recalls that have been issued over the last few years. They may not like it but it is time to own up to this.

                • As ########## has stated I had a successful court appearance last week. I have contacted individually all those Pradopoint members who contributed to my case and given them the details but will wait until the cheque from Toyota arrives before going into details on this forum. It took 12 months from when the case was listed until it was heard. Any member who wants a catch up on my situation can refer to my posts of 26-7-2011, 31-7-2011, and 10-10-11 on this thread. Will add further in a couple of days. Harro

                    • A win in the small claims tribunal will not make it LAW, but may go some ways to helping others with their claims. A loss to one customer is still chicken feed to a global giant such as Toyota. Harro wouldn't be the first and he most certainly won't be the last but the result is encouraging. There should be a national register that we can all input our issues into and then Toyota might take notice.

                      • Very encouraging Harro, I am at the end of my tether regarding this. Although my local dealer is admittedly saying all the nice things and being very understanding, I know at the end of the day, the decision will come down to TMC and that has never sounded promising, but your case gives me some hope.

I guess the next step is for everyone who has experienced this issue to now flood TMC with requests for injector replacements based on this precedence and hope that TMC finally issue a recall/Voluntary Customer Service Campaign?
I would be very interested to see the details of your hearing Harro, I'm booked in for next week for the final inspection, the results of which will be forwarded to TMC for an After Warranty Assistance claim.

                          • OK. Picked up car this arvo. Young girl from service department goes through the work sheet and tries to explain what they have done. First thing I spot is "Only 2 injectors were replaced. Water pump was not replaced. Replaced battery due to it leaking acid." So after being told that they can't match injectors and need to replace all four I now find out that they only replaced number 1 and number 4 injectors that corresponded to the blown pistons. They also told me that the water pump gets replaced as a matter of course and now this has not been replaced. Not that it was leaking. And my original factory battery suddenly starts leaking acid whilst sitting in the workshop. It had no leaks being driven halfway around Australia but sitting idle in the shop for over 6 weeks it decided to leak. They also replaced the main under bonnet fuel filter at $107 charge to me. I don't mind the filter charge and I can live with the battery as I was thinking about changing it anyway. I told the girl that I got 7 years out of my original battery in my 98 Prado to which she replied that they don't make things like they used to. I will be getting with the service manager to discuss the repair issues tomorrow. At least I am mobile.

                            • First impression: the engine sounds a little different or maybe because I've been smashing the outback in my work Colorado that I've forgotten what it used to sound like. Scanguage shows some lower fuel useage whilst cruising the local streets. Car stinks of something burning on the hot exhaust.

                              • I'd rip into the service manager, 2 out of 4 injectors and no new water pump! what pisses me off is that this guy makes a decision without calling you and informing you that: "mate, the plans have changed we are not going to do this and this...."
