I unclipped it from the thingymajig (inter cooler) and blew through the it . Seemed ok. Ends looked a bit dark so I let petrol seep in and blew it out, black stuff, repeated until it blew clean petrol both ways. Let dry for a minute, back in car, quick test ride and it is definately more responsive ! Fuel consumption also back to around 13.5 (way better than 18.5)
Thanks everyone for help and funny comments too . I can now feel confident about getting rear suspension done.

Well maybe it is not quite solved, it definately seemed better but seems to have gone sluggish again and fuel usage back to about 16.2/100.

So the job is to :
        - Clean the throttle body and butterfly flap
        - clean the inlet manifold
        - reclean the MAP filter (should I be cleaning the sensor too - some of the soot must have found its way through the filter...
        - replace the glow plugs and
        - replace the injectors (probably never been done) 195,000km - but thye cost about $650 for 4 - unless someone has a better supplier

I had a quote from my local 4x4 place which is not too bad, but big enough to make me invest more time into doing it myself.

ARK48 - do you get any good instructions in the end?

          - Clean the throttle body and butterfly flap - DONE - it was filthy
          - clean the inlet manifold - - NOT DONE - it looks dirty through throttle body, but unsure how to get to those lower bolts a the moment, plus looks like I have to remove fuel lines so might do injectors at same time...
          - reclean the MAP filter- DONE - used Carby cleaner this time
          - replace the glow plugs - DONE - they were not too bad actually so have spares

          - replace the injectors - no done but closer look and reckon they are certainly originals, so will bite the bullet when I have at least 2 days I dont need the car and access to a shop to buy them...
So results of above - car still works, perhaps power is a bit better overall, and fuel consumption perhaps a bit better but nothing like it was when I bought it 30k ago.

got to work out how to get to those lower manifold bolts...going to take a few hours I think....
