  • Diesel filler port pipe

Does anyone know what the little pipe in the side of the filler entry point is for? It looks like a return for something because as I filled the tank and then removed the bowser pump nozzle I could see fluid coming out of it returning back into the filler hole.

    Thanks
    Doug

I believe its a breather for air to come out as it gets displaced when you will the tank.

When I refuel I keep pumping in the fuel until that pipe stops spurting fuel and the fuel level settles just above it. That way I know she is completely full with no room to spare.

Remember that it burns more than half the fuel load before the light comes on and the gauge goes back up to full. Don't expect to get another 800km from the second tank.

You expected Toyota to build something simple?

The diesels fuel system is simple. The return fuel from the injectors goes first through a fuel cooler then to a 'jet' pump. This pump uses a ventury effect to suck fuel from the rear tank to the front tank. When the rear is empty the gauge then reads from the front only, as Dave said above you don't get the same KM out of the second half. Most cars will take 100 Lt when the gauge pops up. There is a filter between tanks that needs changing occasionally as well.

                      Agreed.
I find 90lt when it gets to half, but 100 by the time the light goes on.

Obviously you get less for this reason, & also you cannot empty the tank.
Although I have tried, when the gauge is under e, still only took high 160's, so I think there's plenty to spare, lol..... Racv t c!
