  • DEFINITIONS - INJECTORS - Toyo service - 1kd-ftv - injector fitter problems

    Since the customer service exercise here about feb 2015, (7 years overdue) we have seen a huge reduction in the usual problem, blow by,
    At the injector due to copper seats leaking, blocking oil pickup, starving the engine of oil/lubrication.

    So this means Tojo have worked on many more of them before us 1kd injector experts get a go at them.
    Before it was blow by city! Untouched, unbutchered.
    Now, not much blow by, but the list of damage is on the increase. This includes other trusted workshops.
    Don't get you mankini in a knot, some workshops, Toyota dealers & techs are good, I'm sure, well I think, I'm told........
    No really I'm sure there are good ones.

    Anyway myself & other expert have names for some of the common problems & I'd like to share so you know what Im on about.

    JACK IN THE BOX when Tojo bend the fuel pipes to save time removing from common rail.
    It's been going on for years, but increased substantially in the last 12 months.
    We release the top of the pipe, with trouble due to bend pressure & boing boing boing......

    LEOPARD SPOTS wen many workshops put injectors back in on dirty ports.

    This set put back in after 40k valve clearance, place in Qld non Toyota, Sunshine Coast, JUST can't remember the name.


    I have seen this procedure cause blow by in no time! With the revised coated seats, it has cost turbos & bottom ends. NOT GOOD.

    The only way to replace injectors is in sets, often Tojo replace 1 or 2.


    They didn't even bother to remove the others & change the seats.
    Which means they didn't do the valve clearance check while in there.

    The Toyota workshop manual states, new injectors - new pipes. Only a very small percentage get new pipes.

      You would think that in these days of longer warranties they really should be doing it right the first time.

      Taking short cuts in the early days could mean big warranty claims before expiry time, I suppose the dealers just send the bill to Toyo so they don't care

        Anthony, do the injectors need to be removed when doing a valve clearance check, or is it a case of while you're in that far you might as well check them?

          I suppose you might be able to get around them, it would be difficult.
          It's difficult enough getting feelers in with them out, My hand is right where the injectors would be, not much room elsewhere to get in.
          Toyota procedure is remove them to do valve clearance check @ every 40,000k.
          But definitely while your In there doing either, you should do both.
          I advise this check & injector replacement at 120,000k, when the job is done right.
          The wear & damage to the internal injector parts does not always show up on diagnostics.
          So Valve clearances will be fine till 120,000k, but Injectors need to go & 120,000k.
          Anther reminder, if your engine is noisy, likely the injectors are not right.
          Also the injector sheets/seals/washer are single use only & must be torqued to 22nm. Ports must be super clean.

            I love long answers! The more detail the better.
            Long time lurker here, and I for one am very grateful for such members as yourself for the time and effort you put in.
