Ok this one is a puzzle.
Have noticed this just within the last month that on cold starts during the Adelaide winter (some nights/mornings 5C), starting and idling is smooth and completely normal, but when I try to reverse out of my very steep driveway I can't !!! After starting I usually idle for 20 to 30 seconds, then when I try to reverse, the revs just don't come up to more then 1200rpm with my foot flat to the floor. Then after another 10 seconds or so, the turbo will spin up and all is normal with full power kicking in. Have tried this with both nose down and nose up in driveway - same result. If the engine is even the slightest bit warm or has been used that day then the problem is never experienced. Even on a winters day of 15C I can't feel the problem on a completely cold start, so it is related to temps below 10C or so. The ECU has not thrown any codes. I've drained the water trap. Fresh oil after first few times it exhibited the fault. Very unsure about handing it to Toyota with a blank chequebook, but I don't know what to do next aside from move to northern Australia lol. 200k on the clock, completely stock KD120 D4D. Drives wonderfully with great power aside from the minute or two after the very cold starts. Any ideas would be appreciated !
