  • Warm Up Time D4D

    G'day folks,
I have searched the forum but have not found the answer I am after.
My Prado is the slowest vehicle I have ever had to reach operating temperature except for one many years ago that had a stuck thermostat which was replaced very quickly.
At idle it seems that it will never get there.
Driving I would have to travel at least 5 kms before the needle reaches its normal position.
What is the experience of the forum?
    Cheers
    Chris

    Chris

About 4 to 5 km for me is normal to reach temperature and that doesn't seem to change even if its minus 5 or plus 10 degrees when I start up.

My old HQ Statesman took about the same, so did my last car, Holden Frontera.

    Regards

    Adrian

You'll find it's the gauge.... it's crap and is on a lot of Toyotas. Fit a VDO or a like.

The VDO shows a 20 degree rise before the Toyota one even moves.

There is a blank in the thermostat housing that can be drilled and taped for the sender unit.

            Hi MickL,
I use the Scangauge II for all engine monitoring, never look at the temp gauge any more, I do agree with you though the analogue temp gauge is an indicator only and does not have a graduated accurate scale.

Mine too is about 4 -5 kms to warm up, normal operating temp seems to be about 86 degrees, had it sitting on 90 degrees the other day pushing into a headwind towing the camper at 118kph, 43 degrees outside. Also using fuel at 15.6l/100km once the wind dropped off sat around 87 degrees and 12.3l/100km still at 118kph.
