  • Storing Diesel in tank for 8 weeks

We are about to go overseas for 8 weeks next Sunday and I am wondering at what level I should have the fuel tank at. There will be no one around to start or drive it whilst we are away (no you may not borrow it Haysey! ). I am not really all that well versed on the algae side of things and my thoughts are to have the tank as full as possible so as to minimise the amout of air that is in the tanks , thus minimising any effect to the diesel.

Whadda ya reckon lads?? (or lasses)
    Regards,

If you can't fix it with a hammer...... you have an electrical problem.

A full tank would be better for the reasons you have mentioned.

Fill her up and lock it away Andrew. Not sure what Penrith is like these days but when I lived in Richmond in the 80's I used to dread leaving my car parked in Penrith for any length of time.

As well as leaving the tanks full you might like to add one of the fuel additives available that contain a biocide help prevent algae/diesel bug. Something along the lines of Chemtech "Diesel Power Additive" should do the trick.

            Mav,

We have decided today to leave it at my sister-inlaw's security underground atomic bomb proof car park at an undisclosed suburb of Sydney (for reasons below) and the car should feel pretty safe in there, well, safer than at home with the wonder mutt that is more than willing to destroy the outside of the car.

            Matty,

You know, I would just love to leave it at your place but.............I know what you do to diesel Tojo's at work, that and the fact that if you drove it every day whilst we were away, it would still have fuel left in the tank, unlike your petrol guzzling dragon !

I've got heaps of driveway space .... and nothing else that runs on diesel ... so you should be safe
