Hi all i'm only new to the site looks good and has heaps of good tips etc as i hav seen so far i've only had my 03 prado for around 4wks now but i'm really impressed with the fuel usage, i work on the west coast of tassie at Savage river and as some of you may know the roads a reasonably twisty and jus as many hills...lol but when i got back from work today i filled up and it only used 79ltr to do 800k's so i think that works out to around 10.12L/100 or 29M/per galon a hell of alot beta than my old VT mind you the Commodore was driven jus slightly harder:Plol

      Hi All,

I had my 08 GXL D4D Auto for 2 weeks now and just done 1560kms.
This was a mix of city driving and Freeway (Eastern Suburbs to Geelong) with the AC on.

      My figures are:

      10.15L / 100kms
      9.85kms / L

This was with a STD GXL with only the Toyota tow Bar fitted.

I too also noticed the change over of tanks around 1050kms and the second tank just doesn't last as long.

I have filled this right up to the neck and given it a few shakes this time, so I will see if it changes, as my Toyota Dealer supplied my Prado ful of fuel and they may not have done it properly.

Just bought new d4d gxl manual and can pick it up next week, didn't have to wait for mine which i found out to be a rare thing.
My last 4wd was a gq with 6inch lift body lift and all the normal gear.
It uses 25 lt per 100 so this new car is going to be cheap to run, just wondering if anyone has been getting close to the fuel economy figures on the windscreen 9.2lt per 100.

        Cheers Phil.

            HI all,

The new D4D diesel seems to make a big difference on the economy figures, last January we drove Adelaide to Canberra in our 'old' 05 auto diesel, full load of camping gear etc but not towing anything and the best we could get was 12.5 / 100km.

Mind you, I LOOOOVE the dual tanks. We had a 1am start, woke the tin lids up and had breakfast at 7, stopped for lunch somewhere in the scrub, kept driving and got to Canberra on one tank. Fanbloodytastic :!:

              Hi

after correcting my odo reading for taller tyres, I got 9.2l/100km on a Syd - Melb trip.
that was achieved with the cruise control set at the speed limit with a light load.
I now know why my fuel usage figures were so different to every body else, my odo was incorrect by 6%.

Last year I changed over from a diesel 90 series 5 sp manual. The best figure I ever got was 10.8l /100km, so I'm impressed with D4D.
Looking back over the past 12months of fuel figures, I can see a gradual improvement in economy. It's taken 20,000km for the D4D motor to really loossen up.

For the record I now know I can drive from Chatswood to South Yarra and back without refuelling.

Just to add to the stats, i've now done 26000km (2007 D4D) and have an average of 10.3lt/100km. I live and work in Sydney and drive to work (CBD) every day. Of the total Km's done so far, about 65% are all city/suburb driving, rest is freeway and off road.

Now owning a GXL Pardo for only about 5 weeks I am certainly no expert.
But I have some interesting figures regarding the D4D Auto.

Type or road Speed gear scanguage L/100km
                    Flat Hwy 100km/h 5th 9.5-10.5 (if really flat 7.5)
                    Flat Hwy 100km/h 4th 7.5-8.5

                    Flat Hwy 80km/h 5th 10.5-12.5
                    Flat Hwy 80km/h 4th 8.5-9.5

                    City Road 60km/h 5th 10.5-12.5
                    City Road 60km/h 4th 7.5-8.5
                    City Road 60km/h 3rd 6.5-7.5

                    City Road 40km/h 5th 12-15ish
                    City Road 40km/h 4th 10.5-12
                    City Road 40km/h 3rd 7.5-8.5

Now it seems that if the RPM is around 2500 or so then the fuel economy gets a whole heap better due to the increase of torque. The only issue i have at running the engine at higher RPM is it will more than likely run hotter.

What have other PPers found on their fuel economy when travelling at hwy and city driving?

After 7000km I am getting a consistent 9.5-10l\100km. This is a mix of city and highway as well as the odd weekend excursion to Mt Mee and Bribie.

I have travelled 12,500km in mine and I am getting around 11 - 11.5l/100km. Obviously I have a lot of extra weight in accessories on mine, and the fact that my roof rack is on all the time creates a lot of drag too. The 6 sp manuals also use a little bit extra than autos.

These figures are a combo of highway and city too. But to be honest, a run on the highway produces the same figures for me as city driving.......go figure.
