      Gday Jon

Its no biggie but when you tag onto any other thread anywhere in the forum you don't have to fill in any details about your rig anymore as your signature will always give the details needed at the bottom bottom

      Cheers

        Thanks Skywalkerrun,
I always thought the signature thing was a bit of a show-off, however it does give everyone an idea of what type of Prado you have and the accessories fitted.
Went for a drive today, the idle speed above 40kmh was actually worse (about 1500RPM) for a while, then went back to the normal (abnormal) 1200rpm.
I do really suspect the MAF may be faulty, even though it has been replaced (or so I was told), as the revs increase further after cleaning the MAF sensor. Looks like another trip to Toyota. Maybe an appropriate letter may help, as the vehicle is potentially dangerous on downhill runs in low range.

Hi Jon , i was talking to a mate of mine regarding your problem ( he does every course available that comes up), he initially thought it was an air leak somewhere and suggested get a smoke test done but i told him it was intermittent ,he asked since a new throttle body has been fitted has a relearn been done on that at all

I have visually checked for leaks, nothing obvious.
I have contacted Toyota customer support, they are escalating the 'problem' to a regional level.
Note that the local dealer has even sent the ECU spec's to Toyota HO and all have come back normal.
What I need is anyone else that has the same model, year etc to advise on what their vehicle RPM's are with no throttle input above 40KMH. This problem has also been noted in the Tacoma (USA) forum.
I have powered down the ECU with the battery disconnected and the capacitance discharged. Doing this makes the 'problem' worse for a few kM'S after re-starting.
This fault was not evident when I first purchased the vehicle. It did not occur on my previous 120. It is a problem reported by others.
I believe Toyota needs to spend some time and efffort and replace parts until the problem is fixed. This should NOT be me going to all this effort on a vehicle under warranty.

Cant you just drop it off to them, throw them the keys, and tell them ""DON'T RING ME TILL ITS FIXED AND RUNNING PROPERLY"" and while I'm at it Ill be borrowing one of your vehicles from the second hand lot and will return it WHEN you have fixed mine.........If they argue, tell them you will send them the bill for the excess fuel its using for the whole time its been playing up...Cheers Steve

The local dealer has been quite good in attempting to fix the 'problem'.
I just need to get evidence from others that have similar models to mine, so I looked at carsales.com and found 3 people with similar vehicles and they all have stated that they do NOT have a high idle issue like mine.
Another call to the Toyota Customer Experience Centre shortly...

                    Just an update....

The regional manager will be looking at my vehicle next week!

Last week, I have had an independant mechanic take a look at the vehicle and the response was that it was dangerous to drive....and as there was no fault codes evident, he advised it needed to be looked at by a specialist.
Might wait to see what the regional manager has to say.

Had the regional manager look at my vehicle today.
I took hom for a drive and showed him the problem. He has never seen this fault before........
Apparently, he has downloaded the ECU spec's and will send these to head officse (has been done before) and possibly to Japan.
I will need to wait about 1 week to get the results...

I have also checked the Tacoma sites...this is a common problem!
I checked the vacuum hoses as suggested on the Tacoma forum this afternoon using throttle body cleaner..no obvious leaks. Removing the hoses while the engine was running caused a change in RPM, so the vacuum hoses seem to be OK.
I might check the speed sensors next.

I wouldn't sell a vehicle that has any faults with it.
Never have. Have even replaced worn tyres before sale.
