LOL yeah its a shit that Karma. Must say every vehicle has always been in 100% when I have sold it. I could have traded the old 1KZ Grande 90 with cracked head to a yard but had it fixed first although they would never have picked it as it only played up at higher freeway speeds, round town would never had known........Lets hope you get some answers to correct the issue...Cheers Steve

Went shopping today.....at least the shop was air conditioned.
While driving there and back, the inlet air temperature was at 43 degrees, and the idle speed was back to normal operation!
The idle speed dropped down to about 800 RPM straight away, which is normal with the air con going flat out.
I am not sure what the exact temperature point is when the idle starts to become normal. Yesterday with inlet air at 32 deg the idle speed stayed up at 1200 RPM.

Therefore, the problem occurs with the vehicle speed being above 40KMH and IAT below 40 deg. It is worse after a cold reset or MAF clean for about 20KM of driving
It does not occur at any speed with the IAT above 40 deg.
There are no fault codes produced.

The MAF measures air flow and inlet air temp (IAT). This has been changed, however still may be faulty? I suspect this may be the case, in combination with a speed sensor being slightly faulty.

Still waiting on the results from Toyota. It was suggested that this may be normal, for emission reg's..

Had same prob with my 2006 GXL Auto about a year ago. I disconnected the battery for about 20 min, and have had no probs since. Maybe worth a try.

Have done that a number of times. Problem gets worse for a while, then back to the original fault.

What were your symptoms? please detail.

            Jon,
Have you heard back from Toyota? I made a scene about mine at the local dealer and they "plugged the laptop in" and did a "live" test drive and concluded that the coolant sensor was out of spec on the low end - apparently the ECU thinks its cold so pumps in more fuel.

So, I had the coolant sensor replaced today AND.......PROBLEM REMAINS.
Will be taking it back tomorrow for a better answer.

They have done a live test.
Still waiting on the reply from the regional manager.

                Checked the ABS sensors yesterday.
Found 3 out of 4 had a white oily deposit on them (like oil mixed with water).
Cleaned the sensors (they are encased in plastic) and re-fitted them, being mindful of the O ring seal.
This morning, idle speed above 40 KMH was at 1000RPM for a while, then went back to 1200RPM.
After trolling through many posts on this type of problem, the ABS sensors MAY be out of spec maybe due to the oil in the sensor area.
Need to confirm if the environment where the sensors are mounted is clean and free from any contaminants. Can anyone comment on this?

Called Toyota today to find out why the regional manager had not called me as promised (within 1 week). Now been waiting 3 weeks.
Told that they are still waiting for an answer from Melbourne
                  Great service from Toyota....
Was going to upgrade to a 150 next year, however with the lack of any service, will now be considering a Patrol..
One phone call is not too hard, surely.

                    Gents,
I think I have finally found the problem.
                    1. Removed both ECU fuses.
                    2. I removed the MAF sensor and carefully cleaned with CO contact cleaner and cotton bud the small bulb (it had a silver grime accumulated on one side) - dropped the idle by 100rpm.
                    3. Removed the driver side Oxygen sensor & tested resistance - 7.5 Ohm
                    4. Removed the passenger side Oxygen sensor & tested resistance - 8 Ohm
Toyota manual suggests anything between 5-10 Ohm is acceptable. Ellery's manual says it should be between 11-16 Ohm. Bosch manual suggests 4 wire sensors should be replaced every 160,00km BUT notes "Thermal stress damage (fracturing of the ceramic thimble) from excessive water in the exhaust, ie- blown head gasket" will require replacement.
                    4. Since the RH bank had blown a head gasket & engine had been rebuilt I replaced both Oxygen sensors.
                    5. Replace both ECU fuses.
                    6. Test drive.

It's only been running a short while, but it seems to return to correct idle speed much better. Am hoping it continues to "learn" over the next few days. Have just filled up too, so will know soon whether efficiency improves from 18L/100km!!!

                    D.

                      Good one Darren D1,
Where do I find the Oxygen sensors? Do you have a Part No.?
I will do the same this weekend and see what happens.
Bottle of your favorite on the way if this fixes it!

Jon, 15 months later and you are still at it, man oh man you must be the only bloke I know of who would still be chasing it up and not sold the vehicle yet lol......Mate I really hope that Darrens out come also solves yours big time. I dead set would have sold it if it was mine if I couldn't find the issue probably with in weeks lol. Good on you Darren sounds like your own persistence as well has paid off and hopefully for both of you...........Sounds Very Promising......Cheers Steve

After spending so much money on buying the vehicle and lots more on fitting all the 'necessary' mods, I am reluctant to sell the vehicle and lose a heap of money in the process, even though the local Toyota salesman encouraged me to do so. Toyota would not answer my question on why I should buy a new Prado...
I really hope the replacement of the O2 sensors fix the problem.

Have replaced both primary O2 sensors at great cost. Still the same problem.......
Replaced the water temperature sender today; also cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body.
Changing the temp sender is by far the most awkward mongrel job that I have ever done...talk about inaccessible!
Will go for a drive tomorrow and see what happens...
