No, because there is no way to fill just the second tank as the filler is a Y setup.
Plus (per previous posts) the 2nd tank is cycled to the front tank continuosly and doesnt "switch" as such.

I still believe that the lights indicate various things to the drivers.
No light means drive forever and see if you really can catch that sunset.
Green light means if there is a petrol station at any time, pull in and pay some money.
Orange light means book me into the dealer I need help

Anyone got a source for this info. The book forgets to mention (I personally think the book is pretty poorly written in a number of areas) the actual point where the low fuel light comes on.

The reason I ask is, last night I put 160L in and the low fuel light wasn't on. Just checked my records and I've previously put 168L in and I can't remember seeing the low fuel light on then either... I don't think I've ever seen it! Maybe it doesn't actually do anything?

        Nige.

P.S. The bowser I was using was a bit slow... I had 2 people back out of the servo from behind me as they got sick of waiting

Yeah , my fuel light came on the other day , after 20-30km with the light on i was a bit worried , i went to the servo and only got 153Lt in it , so i reckon your'e spot on aaron !

thats good , so on a 13lt per 100 , when the light comes on were good for 200km approx ?

Sweet .... i'll be heading for an RAA call now after that usefull info !

(In the 3 months i have the car i have always put fuel in it before the light came on)

I am sure I mentioned this somewhere before but I decided to run my Prado out of fuel once just to see what happened. It is a Grande so it has the trip computer showing the range left. The fuel light came on with the range still showing 100km.......I kept driving.
The range eventually went down to zero and stayed there for another 100km before it actually ran out.
I was getting around 14 litres/100km so I reckon the light came on with about 30 litres left which would be consistent with the experience of other who have commented.

Guys with the D4D, how many kms do you get before the gauge changes and the 90L light comes on?

I've done 900kms and mine hasn't changed over yet? It's been sitting smack bang on half a tank for around 100 - 150kms and hasn't budged? This 900kms had some pretty hard driving offroad included, so I'm starting to get a little worried it's not changing over.

The first tank I went through worked no worries but it wasn't completely full so not too sure how many kms I should be getting.

900 is good and possible, probably in a diesel, i get 600 in the 4.0lt petrol. you normally get a little bit more out of the first tank before switch over.

My inlaws new D4D on the way back out west got 990 out of the first tank before the 90 light came on which is way better than my old 3L diesel. Plus it leaves me for dead out here on the highways!

From a full tank the 90ltr light came on this morning after doing 710kms. Is that about right?

I would be happy with that, the most i have got is 690, sometimes around town as low as 550. We live close to the city so we do a lot of stop start.

Cheers Hutch, that's actually all city driving too, the cars only done 800kms so it's still running in.

Can I expect roughly the same from the next half, or isn't it exactly half/half (seems to be a discrepancy on this)?

780 is the best I have got before 90L light.

                              Average is about 690-710.

                                Cheers,

The second half seems to drain quicker and i never run to empty anyhow, so to answer your question probably.
I have just done 678klms, fill up tonight and put in 120 litres, i think my prado needs to go to AA counselling.
