  • idling low randomly -maf filter?

    Hi guys
did a search on this but found nothing - new (to me) 06 Prado with 90'k's - runs brillianlty except it from time to time idles really low -like it almost stalls -other times its idling normally..... thinking of giving the maf filter a clean?? - any other ideas??

    cheers

Also check the idle speed controller, pvc valve and air cleaner element.

    Cheers

thanks Leigh - a few things on the web indicate cleaning the idle air control valve (idle speed controller??) helps -any idea what to clean this with -assume you want a spray based solvent??? - Supercheap and repco sell a MAF cleaner spray -would htis be ok to spray through the idle speed controller - asusme this is in the throttle body yeah?

I would clean using RP7, inner valve should turn smoothly and freely.

Not sure where it is located on a Prado, is usually a cylindrical shaped unit and
will have two rubber hoses connected to it and an electrical cable.

One hose will go to the air ducting, the other to the inlet manifold.

Will look like a large solenoid valve.

        Cheers

sorry for the stupid q but assume you disconnect the hoses and spray plenty of he RP7 into the two outlets and then let dry out before returning?

            Yep,

Just flush it out with RP7 and off you go.

I've only cleaned the MAF as part of routine servicing. But looking at this thread on Tacomaworld might solve your issues.

Let us know how you go.

great link thanks TB Prado - the Maf is actually easier to clean if you just unscrew it and lift it out of the top of the air intake - did that last night -was surprisingly dirty - didnt fix problem though so need to address/attach the idle speed controller - on the 90 series its mounted under the throttle body on the 120 series though am not sure its in the same place -i will need to wait until the weekend when i can have a look at it under normal light!

well pulled the whole lot apart -the butterfly was quite dirty and i gave it a realy good clean -unfortunately it has made no difference :-( i also read on another us forum that the drive by wire does not have a air idle valve? -at the bottom of the throttle there is a part that looks like idle valve (had two pipes going into it) i disconnected these and sprayed a whole heap of throttle body cleaner in -made no difference - frustrating!

                      Hi Guys,

Mine has just started with a similar issue although not all the time. Today I had the starter motor changed and had to disconnect the battery but connected a memory minder although at some point the memory minder slipped of and the memory was lost. This meant re calibrating the windows, sunroof, radio clocks etc. It normally idles in drive about 550rpm but has dropped to 300rpm and causes quite a shake. Never had a problem before the battery was disconnected, would anyone know whether the computer will just need to recalibrate, will it do this by itself? It's not to bad so im not that worried but just wondered if anyone had this issue before?

                      Thanks,
                      Jesse

Note: It jumps a bit between 300-500rpm in Drive this is and it is better now then what it was when we first reconnected the battery and drove the car. When it drops quite low it does feel like it is going to stall almost..
