  • My Engine's just seized

    Hi all

    Just thought i'd join to share my story so far. We have a Prado Nov 06 GXL, bought from new, never been off road, full service history and my wife uses for carting the kids around, i use it a couple of times a year to tow my boat very short distances.

    Anyway, the other day the motor seized up while stationery at the traffic lights, there were no warning lights or nothing. The company that usually service it are baffled, so i've had it towed to Toyota for a second opinion, they are currenly opening up the motor (6hrs work at $160 per hour at my cost) to tell me what has happened. Will inform the forum of the results.

    They tell me it can only be one of three things. Poor servicing; issue due to off road driving; or faulty Toyota part.

    As i said i have FSH and never been off roading, does anyone think i can build a case against Toyota for this??

    Oscar,That's very sad news.

    Was it serviced by Toyota? It shouldn't really make a difference, but they would have no wriggle room if it was.

      Unfortunately the last 4 services have been done elsewhere by a reputable company though.

          Presumably as this is in the Petrol Section you have a V6 petrol and not a Diesel?

                  Mmm... V6 petrol prado engines are difficult to break..

                  I may bet $20 on either of the following:

                  1. The engine has been started up with no oil in the sump, while having a service. Then it was refilled, slapped on the bum and happily given back to you and the stuff up hidden..

                  2. Or, a loose engine sump plug or oil filter and again zero oil pressure.

                            Yeah it's not a diesel , so it's highly unusual , did it have oil , more importantly did it have coolant or a leak ?
                            03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !
