  • Misfire problem

Hi everyone , I have just joined and need some help . I have a slight misfire . Have put in new spark plugs and had it put on a run on a analysis machine ( no faults found ), I have checked the compression of all 6 cylinders and they were fine . Has anyone had this problem , thanks

Hard to say, is it only missing under load? Could be leads or coilpacks (I assume the engine has individual coil packs). Sometimes you will need to emulate the miss in order to diagnose it. Perhaps put the car on a rolling road dynomometer and see what is happening.

It's done about 94,000klms , it supposedly had the full 80,000klms service before I bought it , but have no proof of this .it seems to worse under load / accelerating , not that noticable at low revs.

Be unusual to be a coil pack with those sort of klms but anything is possible. Maybe age also could affect coil packs ??? .... Under load indicates break down of spark .... Cheers Steve

hair line crack in one or a couple of the spark plugs or could also be a fuel system issue

I would look at the electrical side of things first as that is the easier/ cheaper option to start with. If you can find someone with the same model Prado you might be able to swap parts over trying to find the issue then you will know what parts you need to buy.

Used to have a lot of problems when I worked for Mazda years ago with the sparking thought the connections to the spark plugs. When they got oh tinder load it would arc through. They get really hot being inside the spark plug tube in the head. I might be barking up the wrong tree but it's worth a look. Look really hard for little white mars and the will be a pin hole in the middle of it.
