  • Cold Air Intake system

Hi I am new to posting a topic on this forum.
    I have a 2007 Prado Limited with a 4.0L 1GR-FE auto trans
I have been looking for performance parts for my Prado online but I cant seem to find anything. My main interest is in a cold air intake system. All that I ve been able to find is for an fj cruiser which I believe will fit since it has the same engine :?: ????. I am also looking for a tuner or programmer for my prado and I was wondering if anyone can help me out on these two products and if anyone had any suggestions on what specific product to get. I am from Kuwait by the way and our steering wheel is on the left hand side.
    Thanx.

        Re: Cold Air Intake system

Cold air intakes and rewritten chips on naturally aspirated cars are for teenagers with Hyundai's....

On a modern vehicle like the Prado expect maybe 5% gain (it already has a good intake system and tuning)

        Think turbo or supercharging... 8)

        These guys are good:

          Re: Cold Air Intake system

          Appreciate the help guys.

All I am really looking for is a small gain in performance and fuel economy even though both are very good as is but a small gain (even 5% which is considerably a lot in my point of view) is what I am currently looking for. Plus it's still under warranty and I don’t want to void it maybe when it expires and I have an extra car I would consider installing some sort of forced induction system.

            Re: Cold Air Intake system

            Hey ASU,

im located in Dubai [driver's seat on the wrong side too - lefthand drive ]and i have fitted the AFE CAI that is made for the FJC (will post some pics when i get home). It fits 100% with no mods needed. A few of my friends have fitted the K&N FJC intakes in their Prados but the box is open from top in the K&N, hence sucking in hot air from the engine bay. The TRD/AFE ones take in air from where the stock (cold-air) intake takes in air - inside the fender.

The JBA shorty headers for the FJC also fit our Prados but not the Doug Thorley long tubes.

Tuning, i guess unichip is the way to go in our region.

As said by MickL, gains are very minimum and the hp achieved per $$$ invested is very poor unless you go the forced induction route.

Another thing i cant understand is the newer gulf-spec (GCC) Prados are rated at 262hp/5200 rpm while the rest of the world its advertised @ 240hp. The other cars in the gulf that use the same 1GRFE engine are the FJC & the new LC200 V6 which is rated at 240hp and the Fortuner @ 235hp. Is this some sort of marketing thing to promote the Prado sales ... or is it for real?

                Hi Albertho555,
I am also based in the Middle East (Muscat) and am considering fitting a cold air intake system and cat back exhaust to my 2003 Prado V6 but am finding it dificult to source suppliers. Did you buy it in Dubai or online?

                  Re: Cold Air Intake system

not sure about Muscat, but there are quite a few places you can buy AFE or K&N filters here in Dubai. Let me know if you need more info. I have a K&N on my prado and i would tend to agree with others that there is marginal increase in power. Not really worth it.
