HI RUSTY TRUCK
Mate you've hit the nail on the head there, (P.I.T.A.) all right.
Mine seems to Smear oil half way up the bloody dip stick when rechecking the level.
Yes fresh oil is hard to find on the stick too.
Cheers Troy

MIne too. Never been able to get proper reading when oil is new..
Looks like the dipstick does not make contact with the oil..
I just did an oil change put in 5 litres and one side of the dipstick
shows correct level the other just above..
Yep I did a oil change, put in 5 litres and it was bloody hard to read. Started freaking out thinking its overfull so dropped almost a litre out of it. Still bloody hard to read.
Really p*ssing me off to tell you the truth. So now I've got about 4-4.5 litres in there (I only go about 4.5 litres out of it when changed) but Im still freaking. Dunno if I should top it up to about 5L and not even bother looking at the bloody dipstick.
Seemed to be able to read it alot easier before I changed the oil which was overdue at about 12,000kms.
Hey Rusty
What does the vehicle specs. say about crank case oil capacity for your engine model.
This should give you an indication of the amount needed for an oil change' but doesn't
help for accurately checking the flamin level between services.

5.2 litres with filter. I got out about 4.1 litres plus 100-200mills from the filter. So around 4.3 all up, was reading about half on the dipstick before I changed it.
