The Prado went in to see the doctor today as per my other post viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7430&p=107212#p107212
Apart from the above, I also took it in with complaints of odd noises and wanted it checked out.
They found that the bearing of the idler pulley is shot and needs replacing. They must have detected a noise in the engine bay. I've been thinking that my Prado sounds a bit like Herbie (you know, the Vee-dub car). can anyone confirm whether this noise is caused by not so healthy bearings?
I can also hear faint thumping noise from the rear, when the car has come to a stop after hard braking. They reckon that the discs were not machined after new pads. I told them that the fronts were machined as soon as I picked up the car 7 months ago as the steering was vibrating when I braked, but no machining was done to the back. Again, can someone confirm this diagnosis?
The last noise complaint is random scratching noise coming from under the steering column and transmission tunnel. This occurred after I greased the tailshaft. I thought at first that the noise was the grease being flung out of the uni joints and slide yoke. However, when I stopped at the lights, the scratching noise is still there. It seems to happen when the engine is warmed up. They are still checking this out. Anyone can guess what this might be?
