There were a few in the new car section of www.carsales.com.au

One was even a 2006 model that was still apparently brand new in stock. So there must some somewhere. I find it hard to believe that a car that has been on sale since 2003 would be completely out of stock.

Dan, I was referring to the D4D VX models. The dealership here said that the D4D models had been sold out.

    • Does the new spec GX model also come with Bluetooth?

      Comment

      • Bluetooth

Highly unlikely as it is generally on the upper spec'd models and not on the entry ones and it is only mentioned in the GXL + product info

        • Hi

Found some info on that earthquake in japan relating to the hold up of vehicle builds

Toyota says quake to cut output by 55,000 vehicles
Toyota Motor Corp. president Katsuaki Watanabe told Reuters at a mid-year news conference that Japan’s top auto maker expects to lose 55,000 units of vehicle production through the stoppage of most of its domestic factories through Tuesday after last week's earthquake in Japan. Watanabe said that the auto maker will gauge how to make up for this lost production by the end of the year. The company keeps its target for the whole group to produce 9.42 million vehicles for this year as it battles US rival General Motors for the world number one spot, about 60 percent of Toyota’s vehicles produced in Japan being exported. Watanabe added that is the company’s task to limit the impact of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake as much as possible, and that it wants to recover this shortfall by the end of the year. Watanabe said that the manufacturer realized that the infrastructure is very important and it has to review its heavy dependence on one supplier.

Honda Motor, Japan's number two manufacturer, said it would resume production at some of its Japanese plants on Tuesday, while number three Nissan Motor keeps six of its domestic plants closed until at least Wednesday. A Nissan spokeswoman said that Nissan is looking to be able to recover the shortfall in August and September.

A major supplier to local automakers, Riken faced multiple problems after the earthquake and slammed the brakes on Japan's entire automobile output. According to a Riken spokesman, production of its products, such as a piston ring, takes time, and Riken is now checking the inventories and the damage done to products that were half done or nearly finished. He added that the parts maker will speak with its customers and will try to respond to their needs on an individual basis.

Fitch Ratings analyst Tatsuya Mizuno wrote in a report that the earthquake highlighted the risk of a too lean supply structure. But he also predicted that Riken's production would recover within a week or so, with no effect on auto maker’s credit ratings.

          • My greatest concern about the above post by Rod is that in order to get the manufacturing ouput back on track that the car makers will cut corners and possibly even use parts that may have been compromised, like the piston rings, in order to make the higher quota that will be imposed upon them in the months ahead.

This of course will only show up sometime in 2008 when these vehicles start to exhibit problems and there will then possibly be planned recalls to refit new rings etc.

            • Hi. This is my first post. I've been following this forum with interest for the past week or so, after recently deciding on a new VX Diesel as my replacement car when my current vehicle's lease expires in a few months.
I thought I would contribute by sharing the info I received from Toyota re the updated specs for the VX:
              1) The VX was ordered by the dealer yesterday - with an estimated delivery date of 20th of November (yes - now a 4 month order / delivery time).
              2) Toyota Australia confirmed the details of the upgraded specs (as correctly posted on this forum), but when I asked when photos of the new specs would be added to their Australian website they responded by saying that the images are 'confidential' and will not be released until Septemeber.

                • VX Pricing - Please ...... if this is true please reply PM !

However, I also gave my fleet status to many Sydney dealers, used 2 auction brokers and they all came back with bottom line prices much, much higher than the fleet sales manager at this one dealer I went to.

His first words were "I just care about getting the numbers". Of course he can give me a good deal because his performance metrics are aligned primarily to volume.

Anyway this was my story. The great thing is I didn't even have to negotiate anything with the fleet guy. He just calculated the numbers and said this is it 60,400 first go. So smooth compared to the complicated process of going through the people on the sales floor.

Anyway this is my advise, if you can get a fleet discount head straight to the fleet department of your local dealer

If you can get back to me with details. or anyone else out there willing to provide details, $60,400 sounds like a great deal and I want it too.

                    • I ordered a new Prado in May to make the June production but was told in June that instead it would be produced in July. Since then, my car has been pushed back from an August delivery to September.

The upside is that the dealer told me i'm getting the update model (what a bonus).

I was hoping to be in a new Prado by mid July but don't mind waiting fo the new model.

I ordered the GXL and there was never any Option packs mentioned. I added a few accessories though- bullbar, towbar, headlight covers, bonnet protector, spare wheel cover, floor mats, rear wind deflector and side window deflectors plus tinting the front driver and passenger window to match the rear windows that are darker due to 'privacy' glass. The other non Toyota addition is sheepskin seat covers (I intend to keep the car a long time).

It'll be another work horse and will see off road work when i'm out cutting firewood or exploring (the dealer was horrified that i'll reduce it's resale- c'mon. why buy a 4x4 if you're never going to take it off road?)

My only gripe was the colour i liked 'Dune' comes with an 'Ivory' interior. Now that's not real practical but will end up a red dust colour in the long run. That dust gets in everywhere, whether as dust or mud.

Thanks for posting the update details. I like the extra climate control and rear cooling.

Now i'm just going back to waiting. The "track your new Toyota" site just says my car will be delivered on the release date in September.

                      yee ha !!
                      Adrian.

Well Toyota had similar issues in the US shortly after the Tundra release... the launch was rushed and some analysts blame the spate of camshaft failures on the DOHC 5.7L V8 engine a consequence of the rushed launch. Luckily for all, Toyota promptly replaced the failed engines with new ones, to limit the possibility of buyer backlash.

                        Btw, sorry to digress!

                        • The "new" VX in Carsales at the moment is the KZJ120R, which is the 4 speed auto, "old" diesel motor.

                          • Have Toyota got their pricing right? Where's the value in the higher priced GXL compared to the still cheaper GX with OP3?

I know there's tint, roof rails, 6 disc stereo and alloys on GXL but my mind is telling me it doesn't seem worthwhile to go the GXL.

                            I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Placed my order today for a Silver Ash, D4D, GXL, Auto and was told the earliest delivery date would be Jan08.

As for pricing, has anyone received solid concrete pricing for the new release? I was also told today that there might be a change in the pricing on my order down the track.

Unless there is a clause in your contract I am not sure that they can change the price of your order without your agreement to it.
