  • Anyone else tired of Toyota arrogance?

Here we all are, deposit paid for a vehicle that costs a good pecentage of the average house, with an engine that was new in Europe about 4 yrs ago, that they've only just bothered to bestow on us now. Options are no where near as comprehensive as that offered on Japan or European models, and we have to pay outrageous numbers for 'option packs' for what comes standard in other marques here. One cannot even order heated seats.

Mr Toyota cannot be bothered to tell their dealers when the cars will be available, for crissake. This is 2007, the information age, not 1949. Earthquake aside, can't they pin it down to within 4 weeks? For a June order, it's gone from '10 weeks' to 'September build' to now 'maybe November'.

    Not bloody good enough.

If I told my clients that, I would quickly drive the business away to the competition.

Anyone else thinking how good the Q7 is? Disco 3? Used Sahara TD?

Might as well wait for the LC200 poverty pack.

    Bloody hopeless.

Guess one benefit of having an engine 4yrs behind Jap and Euro is that any problems (if there are any) should be well ironed out.!

Anyone else thinking how good the Q7 is? Disco 3? Used Sahara TD?
The Q7 is a nice rig but hardly comparable if you want a good offroader and aren't they even more expensive.!
Disco 3... Landrover reliability still has issues.. can't be compared to Toyota's reliability. The time waiting for your Toyota would prob be equally spent with the Disco back at the service dept..
And the used Sahara TD, great vehicle but wouldn't you be paying nearly as much for a tidy late model Sahara anyway.!! Prices I've seen on resale of any TD 100series is incredible, and prob will be till the new model is released in a couple of months.

Hang in there, I'm sure the wait will be well worth it. Prado's are popular for a reason.. ask anyone here on Pradopoint.. 8)

      Big Black Mariah,

I know where you are coming from but in the big picture the Aust market is just a drop in the ocean.

Yeah, agree with all of it Mariah, we get treated poorly "most of the time", but Im over it some years ago :?

Must say though, my most recent purchase went pretty well
The selling dealer explained the order/delivery process with how the orders get placed on factory and how the car gets here, the Toyota web tracking thing worked well and was in fact very accurate..and the build quality of my new Playdo is better than my last one, I reckon...and that is saying something as I thought my last one (2004 VX petrol) was an exceptionally good thing

So, Im happy to bitch and moan about Toyota treating the recreational market in Aust poorly, and Im happy to moan about parting with another big wad of cash to get my Toyota to perform off road....but...they continue to murder the opposition in terms of sales...from their perspective, they already have "got it right" and the figures prove it

It constantly baffles me why they dot seem to ever engage some "user group" type interactivity to find ways of extracting more money out of us, we're happy to pay it, ARB et al prove that

Have a nice weekend old mate, chill out and be happy 8)

Yes Toyota is arrogant (implied, the whole Toyota network). At the risk of starting a pissing contest (which, I'm loathe to partake in) I'll state my case.

That's why I wanted so much to like the Mitsu Pajero as Mitsubishi's offering is value packed. Put simply, Mitsu strives harder to earn your dollar, Pajero is jam packed with features that you would have to pay at least $10K for to get the same on Prado. It's debatable as to whether the Toyota badge is really worth that much.

Some dealers seem to think Toyota products emanate from the promised land... they either treat you like a fool or belittle the competitor's rival product. Nearly every dealer I've been to has bagged the new Pajero. Methinks if the product was that good you wouldn't need to bag the rivals.

At the moment, the Pajero falls short but as soon as a competitive vehicle comes along, Toyota would either need to drop their attitude or offer more value or both IMHO.

Just had to get the above comments off my chest.

Running a fleet of Mitsubishi's and now starting to change to Toyota, I will go the opposite.

I have found Toyota to be great, on all aspects so far.

The sale, the delivery (one month early), the service, the warranty claims.
            No faults as of yet.

            Mitsubishi.

Well.. we havent got a week to tell you, so in words, we tried 5 different dealers: ALL sh!tfull.
            Warranty (good bloody luck).
Replacing $$$ parts under warranty (that werent needed anyway), poor workmanship, overcharging etc.
Every invoice had to be carefully checked, and most ended up being changed due to over charging.
Resale value, very poor, so all in all, wouldnt touch them again.
All the mitsubishi's got to a private repairer now as their service depts are cr@p.

Fair enough I guess. I still think that Toyota Australia is taking the piss. Example - once NZ allowed Jap 2nd hand imports the motoring public was collectively astonished at what 'fruit' came standard with the cars. Corollas had electric windows! The mainstream new car sellers quickly changed their 'poverty pack' approach.

THere seems to be a bit of a cartel happening here. Toyota's have a fabulous record for reliability - I'm on my fourth both NZ & Aust - but whay is the Australasisan market disadvantaged from a price and accessory viewpoint?

I drove a Demo Exceed that I would have bought on the spot - if it didn't sound like a tractor at all but highway speeds. More fruit than you can poke a stick at. Kids loved the home theatre too, all for $69 on road.

Thanks for listening to my friday drivel anyway.

              'Ave a great weekend

Sorry to say for an Demo Mitsy Paj Exceed thats a shocking price.....

I paid 68 On-road, with about 4 k of accessories for a Brand new Prado Grande.

A Demo should have been a lot less than this in the mitsubishi form.
Demo should be at least 5-8k below new price...

Well if all he really paid was $69.00 for it then it was an absolute bargain, a new car for the price of a cab fare.

                    You're so right Justo!!

If only they got their act together, the Disco 3 could be a great bit of kit.

I think the only viable alternative is going to be the new Cruiser. The current 100 series TD's are going for silly money at the moment.

All of that will soon change and those who buy now, will unfortunately end up paying in depreciation, upon the release of the new model.

                      Mitsu Vs Toyota

I worked for Mitsubishi for 14 yrs as a fleet manager and have now been with Toyota for nearly 3, have a had 3 Exceeds paid 51k for a DID with the works Exceed plus Bullbar towbar etc etc, A perk of working for Mitsu
and one thing is for sure the saying that you get what you pay for is absolutely true, from quality, reliability to resale it may be 10k cheaper now but it will be over 15k cheaper in a few years.

I am not trying to stick up for Toyota here but I think some people overlook a few things when it comes to pricing and specifications. Specifically the non-visible things that make the current Prados what they are.

The engines for starters. The V6 is quite high tech with alloy block, variable cam timing, resonance flap in intake manifold, lightweight intake, in fact more power than a v8 Landcruiser. The D4D has variable geometry turbo with more torque than the earlier overseas version that Aust didn't get. And for less vehicle weight than both Pajero and 100 Series.

Also the transfer cases have 40:60 torque split centre diff with a Torsen LSD and a diff lock across it. You also get 180 L long range tanks.

All that stuff isn't free so I guess you are paying to get those things rather than more visible "bells and whistles" that some people like to see.

                          Very Happy

I agree with Quadcam, my mate and i drove the Pajaro and the pathfinder before driving the prado all back to back, for us it was no brainer, you don't get as many fancy bits but NVH levels, big fuel Tank, fit and finish, queitness, resale, toyota reliability etc won me over. You do get what you pay for and because we brought one each we got a great price, i worked it out to be about $7500 discount each and i couldn't be happier. And so far one warranty issued fixed ASAP with no fuss and great service from the boys at Sci fleet Brissy.

What people here are constantly referring to are Toyota's quality reputation and resale value.

Just a reminder: this thread is about "Toyota's arrogance". Nothing about mechanical integrity, just the treatment of customers by dealer representatives.

Don't forget, dealers are dependent on customers for sales, not the other way around. :!:

Yes as i said i have had great service and i have built a great relationship with the dealer and the service department, it is a two way street, it is like any Good business relationship wether you are the customer or not you have to build the relationship.
If you get shit service from a dealer go to another one. Do the talking with your feet. We have "Holden" fleet vehicles, you should try dealing with them they make toyota seem like saints.
My new Billion dollar "VE" dunnydore has been returned to the dealer 7 times this year!!
