  • New Spec GXL with options or VX?

    Need some advice.

Right now I have an order for a VX Diesel. Driveaway price 60,400 with towbar.

Upon going to the dealer yesterday I noticed that the new GXL has standard front and rear aircon climate control (same as VX) and option pack 2 for about 2,000 allows me to get airbags, traction, VSC etc.

The way I see it the VX has the following over the GXL. leather seats, electric seats, downhill assist, uphill and other cosmetic stuff.

Can anyone tell me what price they have managed negotiate for a new spec diesel GXL (prefer without accessories)? Other than leather seats I just don't see the value in the VX for all the cosmetic stuff like smoked grill, woodgrain etc. Can someone please share their thoughts. Hope I didn't make the wrong decision

    Thanks

Today I talked in detail with my local toyota dealer about exactly the same situation. He would not give me a quote for the new upspec model yet but will email the moment the ok comes through from head office. I was also keen on the VX especially if I could pick one up for $60,400 drive away, but you are right, I m not fussed about leather seats and the other bits. The GXL with option pack two, which Im told will be about $2500 to $3000, looks like a bargin compared to the VX. Even the GX is very attractive with an option pack.

hoppy50, I absolutely agree with your comments especially regarding the GX as well. I think we would just be missing alloys, roof rails and mp3/cd player but I can get all this stuff aftermarket.

I'm still keen to see though the best price someone has negotiated on a new GXL or GX even. I was also told option pack 2 would be about 2,000

Did you have to supply a letter from your employer to get that sort of fleet discount?

            Nah mate

Just did the deal.I have an ABN not sure if that made much of a difference like this gold card thing that some companies have.Actually thats a Question for salesgirl.Does an ABN make a big difference as far as getting a bigger discount compared to lets say the bloke off the street.

            regards Rob

I think it comes down to whether you need the height adjustable driver's seat and telescopic steering wheel. If it makes a difference for you/partner/other driver then I would go the VX.

Also I would think a VX will have a better trade-in / resale value than a GXL even if you could option it up to the VX spec.

Very, very good point. My wife is quite petite and when she took the Grande D4D for a test drive today she put the seat right up. Unfortunatly that could be enough to swing me back to the VX, and as you say, the resale will probably hold up better than a GXL with option pack 1.

Having said that an option pack on a GXL wouldnt let you get any more for it on resale but would make it much easier to sell. It would be much harder to sell a GXL down the track without the option pack I think.

                        Hi Rmargoss,

That's an awesome price - is that inclusive of GST? I got a quote from my leasing company for about $60K, but I found out that it was no inclusive of GST, so it wasn't such a great deal as it really would have been $66K by the time GST is added.

I would be interested to know if you had fleet discounting to get such a low price.

                        Thanks in anticipation.

Depending on how long you intend to keep it, I don't think the resale argument holds any merit. If you save $5000 today on the gap from GXL to VX then you usually won't get that money back at trade-in or from a private sale.

If you are optioning up the GXL, it sounds like it would suit your needs. Save your do$h and go the GXL, it'd be easier to resell than the VX.

                            Late July 07 GXL Quote

I just received a number of quotes through a number of leasing companies and a weekend walk-in to the local Toyota dealer.
Initially I got a quote from leasing companies for around $64k with the following accessories. Sovereign bull bar, towbar, roofrack, headlight protector, bonnet protector, centre seat covers, colour coded hard spare wheel cover, rubber front/centre floor mats, rubber rear cargo mat. I got them down to $60.2k. I then walked into the dealer without the quote (this was in the front seat of my current car) and without any hesitation, they matched it dollar for dollar, but would not lower it further. As I dont like price matches, I would prefer to go to someone who makes an effort and will undercut without seeing the quote.
I waited a further week, the leasing company obtained new prices incl accessories and came out at $58500 GST Incl. This is on the current model, not the Aug 07+ build with option pack 2. I will have to ask about this for option pack for sure.

                            Hope this helps.

All the other accessories that the wallet wont pay for yet.

                              Hi Rob,

I'm not in sales or anything like that, but to me that sounds like a very good fleet discount. We've ordered our auto GXL as a"man off the street" and have a price of $62000 (with a $5000 discount supposedly) which does include a few accessories. The total price includes luxury car tax and GST. The price is subject to change re the upgrade model.
