  • Under wheel arch plastic guards

Right I feel a little sill yposting this, but here goes.

I have a rattle that comes from the front right guard just behind the headlight at about 1000RPM. So I go to try and find where the noise is coming from (yes I hate rattles ).
Anyway I get to try and get those clips off that hold the plastic guard above the tyre that goes all around the underside of the wheel arch. How in the world do you get those little buggers off without breaking them, I am sure there must be an easy way.

I ended up giving up in the end and thought the knowledgeable PP memebers might be able to help me out so my hair doesnt go any greyer.

I am going to need to get this guard off in the next few weeks why my ne SAfari comes along

    Cheers for any help
    Andrew

Assuming they are the same as those in the 90 series - you will break 50%. Then, buy some more from Toyota. That is my experience.

Yep go to Toyota buy a packet of them and then remove them with a pair of nail pincers. Can't remember what i paid but it was pretty cheap. Check the threads on installing snorkels as they need to be removed in order to do a snorkel. I recall i got a part no. from one of these threads.

      Cheers Andrew

why can't they design a god damn clip that doesnt break when you have to remove them?
I just had to spend $$'s on clips for the body flares that were coming lose.
oh well more money for Mr Toyota then.

Try loosening the bolts holding the guard to the inner guard and the headlight mounting bolt at the same spot, move the guard in relation to the headlight to give it more clearance. Mine had the same rattle at the same rev range.

Thanks Adrian, I did manage to fnd the rattle without having to fully remove the trim. Loosened the guard here as you suggested and also loosened the headlight. I found that just behind the headlight there is 2 pieces of steel that touch and in manufacture there is a bit of a rubbery substance put between the 2 pieces. However on this panel it had gone hard and was allowing the vibration, I managed to get a piece of double sided foam tape in between and since then the rattling has stopped.
