This is a know issue for the stock towbar especially when using a Weight distribution hitch, just google toyota tow bar problems and you will find alot of problems, I would get rid of it and replace with a Hayman Reece Bar.

Here is the existing thread discussing Toyota towbar failures http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...Towbar-Failure

I'd be interesting in hearing whether or not you have been using a weight distribution hitch.

I would not trust these at all.

I brought my car second hand and are unsure what the previous owner was towing with the tow bar.

I will be removing the Toyota bar and replacing with a H/R before I tow anything with it.

The common thread in all the broken Toyota tow bars that I know about has been the use of a WDH.

I am not aware of an OE bar failing when used as per manufacturers specs
