  • AC water leak - 09 120

Not happy! Looks like a replacement evaporator coil may be needed. My 09 120 has started peeing it's self all over the passenger footwell. Only noticed it last Friday but it must have been doing it for some days, going by the amount of water. I had hoped that it was a blocked windscreen drain, but after hosing the screen .. no leak, but with the AC turned flat out, it drips like a tap. Looks like the dash comes out for the second time ( dash has been replaced ).
    BUGGER!

Hi Bazza, its normal for the Air-con to produce and drip water. It normally drips out of a hose that comes through the firewall / footwell area above the chassis rail and about in line with the starter moter (on a diesel). Before pulling the dash apart I would be checking that hose, if its blocked with mud or something it may overflow into the footwell. I wouldn't be rushing to pull the dash apart too much, maybe find this hose in the footwell area and see where it goes before getting to excited about pulling it apart.

    Cheers Andrew

As per Andrew's post. Check if the hose is blocked with mud. Get some wire or an old coathanger and insert gently from underneath. If the evaporator was punctured you would have no gas and no airconditioning.

This made me check my AC lines as I’ve gone through lots of mud recently. The front is dripping fine, nothing from the back.
Does the back one need extra triggering or does it drip at the same time as the front one?
Mine’s the 09 GXL so has the air con to the back, not sure if that matters

Depends on how long you have had the rear a/c on for and how humid it is.best option is to allow the rear to run for a long period and then check the drain line near the back of the car.

i just changed my evap..( due to a gas leak ) u dont have to pull the dash out. just remove the glove box and fan assembly. And on the drivers side u just unclip the cover on the TX valve and undo the two allen keys.. . took all of 40 mins to change the evap , all back togeather and on the vac...
My drain was half blocked by red mud and leaves... ( now has a cab filter in it.. ) but wasn't leaking yet...

              cheers Jack.

Hey Bazza, if its just water on the floor but aircon is still nice and cold the evaporator does NOT need replacing. If the aircon wasnt working then maybe as it could have been leaking. As mentioned above i would say you definately have a blocked drain hose, DONOT stick a piece of wire up the hole as you could pierce the evaporator, when I have had blocked drain hose (havnt had one on prado) I use a cable tie as it will be strong enough to clear any crap out of tube but not damage evap. I doubt you would have to remove the dash ?? Been an 09 with climate air Im not 100% sure as its fitted from when the vehicle is on the production line where as mine been an 05 GXL (not climate air) its put in by the dealer when you order the vehicle and option itup with aircon, I know for sure I can get mine out by removing glovebox etc. If it was leaking pinky coloured crap and smelt then I would say heater core but you said it pisses out with aircon on so definately a blocked hose issue. Im only at Penrith if you need a hand to clear it out, I dont mind coming to give you a hand if your not sure on what to do. Regards Steve. Mybe they didnt put back on properly when you had the dash done ??? wouldnt suprise me
