We have a contractor from queensland working over here at the moment. Came into work today with a huge mass of scratches on front guard and bumper of a dark blue commodore hire car as a result of side swiping a conrete pillar in hotel carpark. He was worried with what hire mob would hit him with for damage as scratches were right down to base coat. we hit it with meguires metal polish that we use for stainless. you couldnt even see where the damage was after about 10 min of hard polishing.
Dont know what long term looks would be but sure worked.

I have a dark blue Prado with non-Toyo pinstriping :-( I use Turtlewax coloured polish which cannot cut teh scratches out, but does hide them very well. Still looks good after a polish after 4 years of off-road travel.

Yes I agree, both Maguires and Mothers do make some some good products, but they're also well marketed producted. Every man and his dog has an iphone, but there popularity doesn't make them a better product, which then makes me think of Amourall. Smells like crap and leaves everything slippery and greasy looking. It's the most useless rubbish made but people buy it buy the truck load.

There's a difference between what most people think is a polished car, and what actulaly is a polished car,and you wont get that from supercheap. But then most people wouldn't consider spending 12 hours cleaning there car a good day out either.
        Cheers

""I did it all by hand (took me 3 days from start to finish) and is now gleaming top to bottom"" no it took me 3 days, then from now on it will take approx a day to polish it top to bottom twice a year on average, this doesnt include me jacking it up, taking all the wheels off, scrubbing in behind the alloys to remove tar and brake dust so it doesnt eat into the alloy, then another day after its been off road eg beach, easily spend a half day soaping up underneath and rinsing off, cleaning out chassis rails, cleaning engine bay of sand and any other holes, washing engine down to remove salt residue, then if its been through mud pretty bad, then its a 2 day job cleaning same spots as if on beach plus also degreasing fully underneath, transfer case, gearbox you name it, its cleaned, hence why when I sell my 4wds (which do go off road and get used, except the 120 as I havnt set it up yet) they generally look like new and most would never ever know they have been used off road, anal ?? Maybe but it all comes from super cheap and keeps the 4wd's looking like new...............Even our old commodore we bought new, sold it 5 years later without even a shopping trolley dent and alloys like new both inside the rim and outside, would take off once every 3 months and clean the ridges in the back of them with a toothbrush to protect the alloy from been eaten away by brake dust...........Sold my 89 holux 2.8D with 300 tho on it, did 3 trips round oz, was used on beach, did some extrem stuff of road, touring, high country, everywhere, sold it to first buyer, had every single receipt for anything that was spent on it, even down to rubber wiper blades, and except for having it scratched by blackbury bush (high country) stll was shining like new (just about) And suprising I use Amourall on all external rubber bits including tyres, yeah agree with you thee the stuff stinks never ever used it inside the vehicle as dust sticks to it like sh** to a blanket. Still disagree with you in regards to super cheap, they have an absolute huge range of good quality products for cleaning.........So what polish do you use or recomend that you use on your vehicle/s ?? ....................Cheers Steve

Bah, I'm pretty pedantic when it comes to cleaning my car, but I just use Meguiars stuff. I find my pedanticness is more to do with how thorough I am, rather than the products I use.

I use the Soft Wash to wash it down, use the chamois to dry it off, then once a year I use the Meguiars Deep Crystal Wet Look (which is a one step polish and wax), and once a year (prior to putting on the Wet Look), I use their Paint Cleaner. Water beads off the paint and it looks a million bucks I reckon. I also have a bunch of others 'specialist' products, like tyre shine, window cleaner, etc. and a few other things, that I use as well.

                hi,
if you have metalllc paint very hard to get rid of scratches..
whenever you polish the car always buff it in up and down movements..it
gets rid of swirl marks caused by polishing...when you rinse the car use
a slow running (withkout the pressure head including the click on part)..
this method cuts drying time by more than half...

Agree with you there GXL05, I use the trigger nozzle when washing the prado to stop wasting water but when I have totally finished rinsing I remove the trigger nozzle and rest the outlet just on the edge of the roof and let the water run over it, (I have a sloped driveway) leaves bugger water on it to chammois off, I do the same with the sides, just run the water from the top of the door down............Cheers Steve
