total newbie/ no idea

new to forum, it looks like a fantastic forum.i have just bought our first ever 4wd, an 07 manual td, iam think that it is the 120 series, so i hope that iam am on the right page.we got it for the space 4 the kids and to go off rd with our campertrailer.we have booked in to a 4wd education day so we can have some idea were to start with the off rd aspect of the car.iam sure my question has been asked before,if so maybe someone could point me to the right thread. the person i bought the car from tells me that it is 2wd the information i have been able to find out is that it is all wheel drive.my question is(finely)who is right and apart from the user manual(a little vage for this newbie)where can i get information to help me get my head around H,HL and LL thanks cogze

Based on the year model, your correct in it being a 120 series. 120/150 models are full time 4wd. Start with an education course to get you started. In the mean time get a coffee, browse the 120 section and start reading the ton of information.

Hi Cogze,

Firstly, to answer your question, given the age it is a 120 Series and is permanent 4WD drive. H is 4WD in High range (used on-road), HL is 4WD High Range with the centre diff locked, LL is 4WD Low Range with the centre diff locked. This will all be explained on your 4WD course.

You will find this has been asked and answered many times in the 120 Transmission section. It is always best to search for an answer to any question before asking. Also, when you start a thread make sure it has a title that actually means something. This aids people in future who may want to ask the same thing you did. If everyone started a thread with the title you have used nobody could find anything.

Yep lots of reading is the go for you, work your way through the exixting threads in the 120 section reading anything that seems remotely interisting to you, you will find the answers to questions you didn't even know to ask.

If you need to ask a question best to find a thread on the topic in question and ask it in that thread rather than starting a new thread.

Your 4wd course is definately a good idea.

welcome to the forum and enjoy the 120, its great to see new members going out and getting in on the 4wd bug, there are a heck of a lot of knowledgeable people on here who have all levels of experience in all aspects of the field, wether it be from mechanical, electrical, accessories, DIYers and travel to name a few, the main thing is just enjoy what ever your doing. cheers samo
