The crossbars are easy to put on by one person. I have put the basket on by myself on previous occasions, but is easier/quicker with two.

The only sneaky thing with the Rola crossbars (not sure about others) is that the little bolts used to tighten them to the rails has a distinctive hex sort of head on it that can only be tightened using the supplied allen key. Not a drama normally, you just would want to lose it...

I am also playing around with different methods of attaching a tube (for fishing rods) to this set up, as the crossbars that sit flush with the rails don't leave much/any space for connecting brackets directly to the crossbars for the tube. Similarly, this may also affect how an awning may be attached, if I choose to get one in the future. At this stage I am thinking of making some permanent mods to the basket itself so that both these items are easy to attach, as most times I would want to attach a rod tube and awning would also be with the basket.
What size basket do you have Madkore? Do you have any pictures that you can post?

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I'm looking at purchasing a 2008 120 series that is fitted with roof rails. My garage door is so low that with the rails fitted, the bus won't fit through the door. I would like to know what's involved in removing the rails and should I be doing anythig to cover the remaining bracket/bolt holes.

I've seen a GX with no rails, it looks like it's got some sort of cover which I would assume is available from a dealer.

        Thanks for the help.
        Common sense isn't that common.....

Have a look at this thread, looks like they are pretty detailed instructions.

The basket I have is the Rola Vortex Luggage Tray. Rola says it is:
              -Interior - 1200mm x 950mm x 100mm
              -Exterior - 1400mm x 1020mm x 120mm

I also have the Platypus Bag which has been useful for keeping luggage dust/water free. We have used it before to pack sheets/towels and so fourth. The first time we used it, the sheets touching the outer canvas were wet when we arrived (it was raining) however since then we have had no dramas. I think this may be to do with how canvas needs to be 'seasoned', much like many tents, etc.

The Platypus bag attaches very easily, with just a bunch of adjustable straps going around the basket and connecting with clips. It makes it easy to pack the bag, then I get the missus to help me lift it onto the roof and I attach it. Means you don't have to tie individual items down, as its all securely in the bag.
