  • ONE MORE SLEEP !!!

3pm tommorow and I'll have the new Prado !!! Should be interesting to say the least. I currently drive an 04 V6 GXL and have been very happy with it. I've not driven a D4D yet, but was confident that it would be a good motor, so ordered it without a test drive. Tommorow I'll find out just how my instincts have served me with this one.

Awaiting me is a Dynamic Blue GXL D4D, 6sp Man with a few extras... colour coded ARB Sahara Bar, IPF fog lights, IPF900XS driving lights, Sheepskin covers, Sandgrabba mats, towbar, 3 bar aero bars, 5 x Cooper ATR 265/65. Colour coded wheel cover. I'll be fitting the trek table soon (kept from the current car). I'll probably need to upgrade the suspension with the ARB bar at some stage. Will see what other kit I might want.. I mean need.. hehehe

I cant wait to see how this D4D manual drives. Will be my first ever diesel (owned).

That's good news BlackSheep! I'm struggling to remember my testdrive 5 months ago - but a new VX DVD will be ready for collection on Thursday this week too. My first diesel too - but all the reviews and talk can't be wrong mate - the D4D is the way to go. Enjoy!

Its actually on this site that I have read the most about the D4D Prado, and I joined the forum after I had ordered the car, so its been great to read so many good things about the D4D.

Funny thing is, back in 04 when I got the petrol, I was actually looking to buy a Blue, manual diesel GXL. I was told it was a 3 month wait and then the dealer showed me the car that the dealer principals wife was driving and offered a great deal. I ended up taking it as it was a great buy at the time, and there was no wait. It was a silver V6 auto GXL with 1200km. I'm handing it back to them tommorow with almost 100,000 on the clock. I'm actually glad I ended up with the V6 and not the diesel. I worked out there was no cost advantage to the diesel whilst in terms of performance the V6 was in a completely different league.

The new D4D is the engine I've been waiting for. I know they've had this engine (or one just like it) in Europe for a few years) I'll now have the colour, engine and transmission that I wanted, almost 4 years later. The V6 has been awesome, but the extra torque and range of the D4D will be fantastic, not to mention getting back to a manual. Nothing beats a good manual box for input.

So really, whilst a lot of people have been talking about waiting for months for their cars, I've been waiting for nearly 4 years for this one... 21 hours and counting... WOOHOO !!!

        Mark

P.S Fazz... I think I'll be counting petrol pajeros at servos as I drive on by

The last ship must only have D4D to deliver (Way to go)

Only three more sleeps & another proud parent

              Mark.

I'll be getting that new Prado feeling at 4 pm Tuesday an hour after you.

Picking up from Nunawading Toyota and cruising home in peak hour traffic. I don't think I'll be thinking about the traffic at all !

Taking it up to Elmore Field Days on Thursday for a nice little drive.

              Yee haa !!

              Congratulations on your new machine.

Awesome, as soon as I left the dealership, I drove it down the Toowoomba Range, a short run on the highway and then back up the hill. It holds 90kmh @ about 2200rpm in 5th, easily, which is not bad if you havent been up the Toowoomba range yet. Just as quiet as the V6 on the highway. Excellent.

Its not as quick as the petrol, but its not far off. Its actually very deceptive in the way it can build speed. Very easy to speed if your not keeping an eye on things. I certainly dont feel like its lacking in power.

I've also put it up a relatively short but steep track and found the engine to be superb. I went out of town tonight to see what the IPF's were like and whilst they dont pump out as much light as the Lightforce XGT's I had on the last prado, they are still good lights. (she's already copped some decent bug splat!) I'm also very happy with the ARB Sahara bar.

I cant wait to have a decent drive, but so far, very very happy. It was well worth the wait. Now...just need to work out how to post some pics..

                    Cheers

Initial verdict is 'guilty' on all charges of pure driving pleasure.

The 6 speed D4D manual just purrs along. Driving through Melbourne in peak hour traffic wasn't a chore. Sitting in the comfort of the car with the radio on, climate control set. So easy.

The 100km drive home on the open road. I had a ripping headwind gusting to about 80kmh. The car doesn't care. I set the cruise control and even with hills, it just sat on speed.

I'm very happy with the Hella Rallye driving lights I got. They really make a huge difference. Spotted 2 foxes running together across the road not far from home. The things you see when you don't have a rifle in the car. Damn it. I know where they are though and will get them soon.

Got home after dark as pick up was at 4.30 pm and got away from the dealer at 6 pm after a cuppa and a chat. The dealer said I'm their first customer to receive the upgraded GXL and I'm lucky I ordered in May.

Can't wait for daylight tomorrow for a closer look again and some tyre kicking.

The car got plenty of looks at a BP roadhouse when I was filling up. A guy in a VW Golf diesel asked me if I wanted to swap. An obvious answer was given.

I'll get a picture tomorrow and upload it.

Time to read the owners manual now.

Prado looks excellent Mark, 90k's up the Toowomba Range in 5th is good, been a while since I been up there.
