Warranty work done out of warranty..

Well..

My local toyota dealership has been fantastic in the fact that they have replaced the starter motor, and are going to replace a fuel tank (im getting the gurgles again - this is going to be the 4th tank for the car) even tho the vehicle is out of warranty.

Its warranty finished on the 16th of september, but the vehicle has only done 34000 kms.

When i was down in brissy, i had it lifted and put some cooper STT's on it.

when i was under it putting on the recovery points (that i got off wengnuts about 2 years ago ops: ) i noticed that there was oil coming out of the front of the motor. The same thing happened to by brothers 05 model last year.

I have my fingers crossed that toyota will once again come to the party (as the leak shows that it has been there for months to boot)

well they didnt cover the front crankshaft seal under warranty

all in all it cost me $255 for the seal to be replaced, and a new drive belt put on it.

The replacement fuel tank was the same code number as the "revised" tank they put in it last time, but a different batch number.. Lets hope that this tank (the 4th one to be put in) will not give me the gurgles..

Wow, an oil leak at 34,000 kms?

Surely Toyota would have covered it under warranty to protect their good name?

If a Toyota leaks oil with so few kms its not any better than what people have been led to think - i.e. Toyota 4x4s are no different to Land Rovers. :twisted:

Yeah what do you do with a Land Rover that doesn't leak oil?
Answer put some more oil in it it's obviously run out! :lol:

My old AU falcon once got a crankshaft seal leak at about 40k kms leak fixed under warranty no problems, whats wrong with toyota fixing the same type of leak, it is not a mechanical defect that an owner can induce.

the bloody service manager (who was great up to that point) had already had the starter motor and the tank done out of warranty, and couldnt get it thru.

I think they would have done it, if all these other things hadnt needed doing as well.

Exactly my thoughts. My initial thought was WTF?

As far as I'm concerned, described is a mechanical defect not caused by the owner. It's a shame there is no good will on behalf of the manufacturer given the low mileage of the vehicle.
