problem with fuel guage

I tried to search first so if this has been mentioned before sorry.

I have a 2004 GX petrol
During the last couple of months I've notice an annoying problem with my fuel guage. I know I have plenty of fuel but quite often I'll start the engine and start to drive and my low fuel warning light comes on and the guage registers empty. Is this a common problem?
I have about a month of warranty left, could this be covered?
The only reason I know I have fuel is that I've filled up in the morning and have went to go out at lunch and it appears I have none.

This is the only issue apart from the original crap tyres and factory wheel alignment I've had. Tyres have been great since switching to Coopers

Is the 90 light on or off?

I have the same thing happen to mine when it gets around the point of 90L till empty. I dont think its something that can be fixed other than a problem in the design of how the gauge works and how the tanks work.

it happens about half way between 90l and empty. It's not so bad when I'm the only one driving but if my other half takes it I'm guessing how much he's used. Not that I let him drive it much

Sounds exactly whats happening. There is nothing anyone could do i think without it being a two separate tank arrangement.

just for the hell of it I dropped into our local service department and asked what they thought.After testing a few things They believe it's the sender sensor unit and it is covered still by our warranty. So yeah for that. Friday is operation day and while it's in there they are going to take care of the recall on the brakes(did know there was one). It will be interesting to see if this fixes the problem.
Best of all Toyota is paying the bill.

I believe the brake recall applies to 03, 04 (and maybe some 05 ??)

It is a recall to inspect the O ring seal on the brake master cylinder ... where it would seem that many dealers just replace the seal.

well they replaced the fuel sender sensor unit on Friday and so far so good, told me to keep an eye on it for the next week or so just in case it wasn't a faulty sensor(it is 90% of the time) If it plays up again they will replace something called a cluster unit??
